Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland Matt Wallace A very successful year for RICS matrics Leicester, Northants and Rutland with their social events ranging from Wind Farm Site Visit, RICS matrics on Ice and a golf day in aid of LionHeart and Rainbows Children’s Hospice. The group has also succeeded with running CPD events that have been well attended encouraging the programme to grow. One of the events which received excellent feedback was a visit to the Space Centre in Leicester. The group has received good promotional opportunities with a regular Chairman’s Column in the East Midlands newsletter, articles in E news and on the website. The group can boast a fantastic relationship with the regional staff team and this has helped towards the successes achieved in 2007/08. Some testimonials received include: “RICS matrics is a great opportunity to network with fellow professionals. It offers a wide variety of events; all of which are excellently presented and well attended by members of various professions within the business community.” “I have been involved in RICS matrics since I graduated from university in 2001. I have personally found the RICS matrics very helpful in my careers progression with networking and building friendships with like-minded individuals. I have also gained support and advice from the people that I have been involved with on the committee. My advice is to get involved”.

London Richard Russell RICS matrics London continued to build upon the established number of sub committees in order to address the main functions of RICS matrics. This year RICS matrics London organised 22 lectures Life Long Learning lectures between October and May. Positive feedback was once again received from the delegates at the high quality of the lectures. Many speakers have subsequently requested to lecture for RICS matrics again. The Members’ Reception in November 2007 was held again at the Loop Bar in the West End. The event was well supported with between 250300 members attending. This event continues to bring new members from various disciplines of the profession together and in particular student members and APC candidates. The Annual Dinner was held at the London Marriot in Grosvenor Square in April 2008. The “Around the World” theme was warmly received and the black tie event was extremely successful and raised £1,850 for LionHeart. Autumn 2007 saw the long awaited return of the RICS matrics London Go Kart Endurance Race at Kings Cross. The event brought members from various surveying companies together and provided a perfect environment for team building and healthy competition. RICS matrics London organised the national Rugby 7s team and hospitality tent at the event in May 2008. Tickets for admission to the RICS matrics marquee were sold in advance and on the door with the proceeds going to LionHeart. Participation in the event continues to promote the RICS to the members and other professionals in the industry. RICS matrics London has had a very successful year and has made positive steps in strengthening their position within the social network of the construction industry.
