Message from County Commissioner President
This has been of time of significant transition, as our community slowly returns to normal after moving through an historic pandemic. Our economy is improving, and we are eagerly looking forward to new opportunities for growth and revitalization of our community and welcoming visitors and tourists to explore all we have to offer. Our local businesses have been essential contributors to the county’s capacity to bring back a thriving economy.
Our Board of County Commissioners has worked through this evolving time to make sure businesses have the support they need to maintain operations. We approved legislation to support smart growth, adopted zoning changes, provided tax credits to rehabilitate blighted properties, and streamlined our permitting processes to make sure Charles County is open for business. Our economic development partners facilitated trainings, hosted roundtable discussions, met virtually, and reached out to ensure funding, sources of financing, and related services are available to all.

Equity is also important to our Board of Commissioners. As the 2020 Census has revealed, our county is growing not only in population, but in diversity. It is important that we continue to provide for our evolving communities. We completed a disparity study focusing on our procurement process, and we passed a resolution highlighting our intent to create equitable opportunities, embrace diversity, and address disparities. It is vital that as our community changes our practices and policies change, so we can serve with equity and inclusion of all our residents and business partners.
With strong prevention and treatments now available for COVID-19, our community can once again meet in person to network, connect, and engage with one another. We appreciate the partnership of the Chamber of Commerce to bring us together to facilitate connections and build partnerships that help our community prosper and thrive. We are grateful for what we have achieved together, to make sure Charles County is a desirable location for people to live, work, and play, both now and in the future.
