He keeps the flock together, so it is safe from attack. At the same time each sheep receives individual attention. Those that stray are brought back to the flock, and any sick sheep is healed. Each one is known by name. 4. A nurturer, a friend. As a nurturer the pastor will generally minister to a manageable number of persons that are in their charge. In the modern church many of those who wear the title of pastor oversee a vast network of other subservient pastors. Note: this is not the biblical model but the model of men. 5.
