Life-Changing Programs, Lasting Impact Michelle is a San Luis Obispo County YMCA LIVESTRONG® graduate. She, along with three other women, completed the 12-week program in the Spring of 2025. Michelle was diagnosed with non-curable brain cancer. Not only did the cancer affect her physically, but it took a toll on her mental health. She knew that she wanted to get her strength back, but didn’t know how or where to start.

Michelle learned about the LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program and knew it was something she wanted to be a part of. Now she is so glad that she took the leap to participate. She made wonderful friends and worked with amazing coaches. She shared her appreciation for the structure of the program, “...we were all treated equally, and while our workouts were tailored to each of us as individuals, we all worked out together, encouraged each other, and developed true friendships.”

When asked about her success in LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, Michelle said, “Ever since completing the program, I have gained at least 75% of my strength back and am no longer falling! My words of encouragement: have fun, set goals — meet them, and make memories.”

Michelle’s LIVESTRONG® trainer, Laura Lowe, shared, “It was such a pleasure having Michelle as part of our LIVESTRONG® program. She inspired all of the LIVESTRONG® ladies to be just like her!”
