Dr. Lynn Babington | PRESIDENT Dr. Babington was interviewed by KHON2 regarding Chaminade University’s $5,000 graduate and online undergraduate scholarships in celebration of 200 years of Marianist Education. The scholarships were available to new, incoming students looking to pursue a master’s degree or online bachelor’s degree. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Babington was interviewed by Pacific Business News, Hawaii Public Radio, KHON2 News, KITV News and Hawaii News Now regarding Chaminade University’s response to the pandemic and looking forward to the next academic year.
Dr. Lance Askildson | PROVOST AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS Dr. Lance Askildson was interviewed by Pacific Business News regarding Chaminade’s Master of Business Administration program and its six tracks. Askildson assumed his role as provost and vice president for academic affairs in June 2019.

Dcn. Michael E. Weaver, M.P.T., lecturer of historical and political studies, has been appointed Director of Deacons for a six-year term by Bishop Silva. Weaver continues to serve at St. Anthony of Padua Parish.
Dr. Brooke Carlson | ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, ENGLISH Dr. Carlson published a short reflection in the National Teaching and Learning Forum about pivoting and adjusting to online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. David Carter | DIRECTOR AND PROFESSOR OF FORENSIC SCIENCES Dr. Carter co-authored the textbook, “Forensic Microbiology” on the emerging (and groundbreaking) role of microbes in forensic science in 2017. An Arabic version of the textbook is slated to be published in December 2021.
Dr. Eurina Cha | ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF NURSING Dr. Eurina Cha was the recipient of the 2019 Bright Society Award from the Global Cooperative Society International-Hawai'i chapter. Cha, a certified advanced public health nurse, has more than 25 years of experience in nursing and is the lead faculty member for an annual event on Hawai'i Island that provides health screenings and education in a culturally sensitive way.
Dr. Steven J. Choy | ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY Dr. Choy received the Pat DeLeon Lifetime Achievement Award from the Hawai'i Psychological Association. Choy specializes in the identification, assessment, treatment and prevention of child maltreatment. He was the founder and director of the Child Protection Center at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children for over 30 years before his retirement and appointment to the Hawai'i School of Professional Psychology.
Dr. Kathryn Chun | ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY Dr. Kathryn Chun was interviewed for KHON2’s special report regarding the 20 Year Anniversary of the Xerox Murders. Chun commented on mental health in the workplace.
Dr. Gail Grabowsky | DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF NATURAL SCIENCES AND MATHEMATICS & PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES Dr. Grabowsky was interviewed by KITV News regarding the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and how the shelter-in-place order, due to COVID-19, for to reduced humanity’s impact on the earth.
Dr. Richard Hill | ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH Dr. Hill co-authored the article “From Braemar to Hollywood: The American Appropriation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Pirates”, an exploration of how today’s popular culture pirate tropes can be traced back to Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1883 novel Treasure Island. The article was published in the journal Humanities.
Dr. Frederique Kandel | ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIOLOGY Dr. Kandel was selected for the 2020 Ronald M. Iwamoto Teaching Fellowship. Kandel will hold the title of Iwamoto Fellow for two years. The funds from the fellowship support professional development, including attendance at conferences, workshops, innovative curriculum development or leadership in education training.
Dr. Christopher McNally | PROFESSOR OF POLITICAL ECONOMY Dr. McNally was interviewed by Hawaii News Now regarding the effects COVID-19 has on tourism in Hawai'i. McNally was also featured on Hawaii Public Radio to discuss the effects COVID-19 has had on the global economy as well as Hawai'i’s economy. Dr. Edna Magpantay-Monroe | PROFESSOR OF NURSING Dr. Magpantay-Monroe was presented the 2020 Weingarten Leader of Leaders Award by the National Student Nurses Association. The award is given to a dean, faculty member or state consultant who goes above and beyond to support nursing students. Magpantay-Monroe was nominated for the award by her Chaminade student.
Dr. Allison Paynter | PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH Dr. Allison Paynter wrote a short play consisting of no more than 150 words about the novel coronavirus that was accepted for inclusion in The Coronavirus Plays: A Project Created by the One-Minute Play Festival, America’s largest and longest-running grassroots theater company.
Dr. Katelynn Perrault | ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF FORENSIC SCIENCES AND CHEMISTRY Dr. Perrault was featured as a thought leader for News-Medical and Life Sciences discussing her research into using Multidimensional Gas Chromatography to achieve odor profiling of postmortem microbes. Perrault also wrote a blog article for chemistry magazine LCGC North America discussing her experience of teaching online in her field during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Lianne T.S. Philhower | ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY Dr. Philhower received the Professor of the Year Award from the Hawai'i Psychological Association. Philhower has a diverse professional background that includes working in public health environments, outpatient community mental health programs, private practice, school consultation, and education.
Dr. Junghwa Suh | ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL + INTERIOR DESIGN Dr. Suh received the 2019-2020 Father John F. Bolin Excellence in Scholarship award, which recognizes full-time faculty who have made notable academic and professional contributions to Chaminade University. Suh challenges her students to see the relationships between architecture and the urbanscape with sustainable, interdisciplinary and techdriven design strategies.
Dr. Tracy Trevorrow | PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY Dr. Trevorrow was interviewed by KITV4 regarding a bill that would require public high schools to start no earlier than 8:30 AM. Trevorrow previously published a paper that supported an increase in hours of sleep can promote student health and well-being and academic performance.
