WU HAN

Co-artistic director of the Chamber Music Society, pianist Wu Han is among the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world today. She was named Musical America’s 2012 Musician of the Year, one of the highest honors granted to musicians from the music industry in the US, and has risen to international prominence through her wide-ranging activities as a concert performer, recording artist, educator, arts administrator, and cultural entrepreneur. In high demand as a recitalist, soloist, and chamber musician, Wu Han has appeared at many of the world’s most prestigious venues, and performs extensively as duo partner with cellist David Finckel. Wu Han has also established a reputation for her dynamic and innovative approach to the recording studio: in 1997, Wu Han and David Finckel launched ArtistLed, classical music’s first musician-directed and Internet-based recording company, whose catalogue of 18 albums has won widespread critical acclaim. Along with David Finckel, she is the founder and artistic director of Music@Menlo Chamber Music Festival and Institute and serves as artistic director for Chamber Music Today in Seoul, Korea. In 2013, she inaugurated a chamber music workshop at Aspen Music Festival and School with David Finckel, and under the auspices of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Wu Han and David Finckel lead the LG Chamber Music School. Recent recording releases include Wu Han LIVE (December 2014), and Piano Quartets, a Deutsche Grammophon release recorded live at Alice Tully Hall with cellist David Finckel, violinist Daniel Hope, and violist Paul Neubauer, featuring the piano quartets of Brahms, Schumann, and Mahler.

Praised for her musical spontaneity, wit, and charm, Czech-Canadian musician Anna Betka is an active solo pianist, chamber musician, collaborative artist, and singer. In addition to performances throughout North American, she has made appearances as a soloist in many countries, including Germany, France, Czech Republic, and the UK. She has been a Fellow of the Toronto Summer Music Festival and Academy, where she worked with John Perry and James Anagnoson. An avid chamber musician, Ms. Betka has been coached by many illustrious musicians, including the Emerson String Quartet, David Finckel, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, and the Gryphon Trio. Currently, she is one of the founding members of Trio Mondial, a piano trio formed in 2015 and coached by renowned cellist Colin Carr at Stony Brook University. She has also performed and premiered works by Thomas Adès, Mark Applebaum, and Anthony Korf with the Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players. During her undergraduate career as an honors scholarship student at the University of Toronto, Ms. Betka was a recipient of the David and Marcia Beach Summer Study Award to study at the Académie Internationale d’Eté de Nice in France. Other rewards include an Honorary Mention at the International Smetana Piano Competition in Pilsen, Czech Republic, as well as prizes at the OMFA Provincials. Currently, she is in her first year as a doctoral candidate at Stony Brook Univeristy in New York on scholarship. Her principal teachers have been Boris Lysenko, Christina Dahl, and Gilbert Kalish. Pianist Tomer Gewirtzman has performed recitals in London’s Steinway Hall and the Salle Cortot of the École Normale in Paris. Mr. Gewirtzman played with Nikolai Petrov’s Kremlin Festival in cities throughout Russia and has appeared as soloist with orchestras throughout Israel including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Israel Symphony Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, the New Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music Symphony Orchestra. In the U.S., he has appeared as soloist with Symphony Silicon Valley, the Aspen Concert Orchestra, the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, the North-West Florida Symphony Orchestra, and the South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Gewirtzman has performed at festivals including Yellow Barn, the Aspen Music Festival, PianoFest, PianoTexas, and in summer 2016, he will perform at the Bravo! Vail festival as a Piano Fellow. At the 2015 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, he was awarded First Prize. Next season, he makes his debut in the Young Concert Artists Series in Washington, DC, co-presented by Washington Performing Arts, and in New York. He is currently working toward his Master’s degree at The Juilliard School, under the guidance of Sergei Babayan, where he is a proud recipient of the prestigious Kovner Fellowship award. An avid chamber musician, clarinetist Bixby Kennedy has performed and collaborated with ensembles including the Alexander and Artis String Quartets, New York Woodwind Quintet, and WINDSCAPE. As a soloist, he performed the Mozart


Clarinet Concerto with the Houston Symphony in the summer of 2015 at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. He also took first prize in the Boston Woodwind Society’s Annual Solo Competition in 2015. An advocate of music both new and old, he has performed on period instruments across the country and in 2013 commissioned, premiered, and continues to perform Kevin Garza’s Clarinet Concerto. This summer he can be heard performing at the Sarasota Music Festival, the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts, Avaloch Farm Institute, and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. In the fall, Mr. Kennedy will be moving to New York City to work as a fellow in Ensemble ACJW for the 2016-2018 terms. Mr. Kennedy is currently completing his Master’s degree at Yale University under the tutelage of renowned professor David Shifrin. Violinist Bora Kim is from Toronto, where she made her soloist debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2009 at Roy Thomson Hall. She has also performed as soloist with the Canadian Sinfonietta, Oakville Chamber Orchestra, and Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra, and has given solo recitals and performances at major venues in the city, including the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, the Toronto Centre for the Arts, the Carlu, the Living Arts Centre, and the Canadian Broadcasting Center’s “Glenn Gould Studio.” She won First Prize from various national competitions, including the Canadian Music Competitions, and represented Ontario at the 2009 National Music Festival. Recently, she performed with pianist Emanuel Ax at the final gala of the 2015 Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. She has also participated in many summer festivals including Sarasota, Aspen, Orford, and Banff. She holds double Bachelor of Music degrees in both Violin Performance and Piano Performance from the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where she was the first double-major student in the school’s history. Her primary teachers include Hyo Kang, Arnold Steinhardt, Robert Lipsett, and John Perry. Ms. Kim is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at the Yale School of Music. As the recent winner of the Juilliard Concerto Competition, cellist Eddie Pogossian performed the Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations at David Geffen Hall in New York and at the Harris Theater in Chicago with the Juilliard Orchestra under the direction of Itzhak Perlman. He was also the winner of the inaugural Los Angeles Philharmonic Young Artists Competition, performing as soloist with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra in Walt Disney Hall. He has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Zipper Hall, and on NPR’s From the Top radio show. He has performed as a soloist live on KUSC with the Colburn Chamber Orchestra, and with the Moscow Ballet at Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. He is a long time participant of the Apple Hill Chamber Music Festival, and has also attended the Heifetz International Institute of Music, Pinchas Zukerman’s Young Artists’ Program, Kneisel Hall, and the Meadowmount School of Music. He has studied with Paul Cohen and Rick Mooney, as well as Ronald Leonard at the Colburn Young Artists Academy. He has also worked with Frans Helmerson, Hans Jensen, Clive Greensmith, Joel Krosnick, Phoebe Carrai, and received chamber coachings from Arnold Steinhardt, Ida Kavafian, Joseph Kalichstein, Paul Coletti, Joseph Lin, and Laurie Smukler. Dedicated to chamber music, he is a founding member of the Zelda Piano Quartet, a group currently a part of the Juilliard Honors


Chamber Music Program. Mr. Pogossian is a recipient of a Kovner Fellowship and studies with Natasha Brofsky at The Juilliard School. Cellist Lauren Posey began her music training in Salt Lake City with teachers Carey and Elliot Cheney. In 2012, she won the T. Gordon Parks Memorial Collegiate Concerto Competition. The following year she won the University of Utah Concerto Competition. She has been a member of the Rosco String Quartet since 2012, with which she attended the Juilliard String Quartet Seminar, Robert Mann String Quartet Institute, and the Deer Valley Music Festival Emerging String Quartet Program. In 2014, she won the 2014 MTNA National String Chamber Music as well as the University of Utah Chamber Music Competition. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from the University of Southern California under the tutelage of Alexander Suleiman, and received a Master of Music degree from the University of Utah, where she studied with John Eckstein and Elliott Cheney. Ms. Posey is currently a student of Colin Carr pursuing a doctor of musical arts degree at Stony Brook University and is a recipient of the Staller Scholar Award. Originally from Houston, violist Jasper Snow is a passionate classical musician. Career highlights include performances on National Public Radio, concertos with the Houston Youth Symphony and the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts Symphony Orchestra. He was selected as a 2014 Young Arts winner and a 2012 Interlochen Center for the Arts Emerson Scholar. As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with artists such as the Shanghai Quartet, Kathleen Winkler, Timothy Pitts, Christopher O’Riley, Itzhak Perlman, Ronald Leonard, Merry Peckham, members of the Ariel String Quartet, and film composer Danny Elfman. His former teachers include James Dunham, Larry Wheeler, and Jeffery Irvine, while chamber music coaches include members of the Cleveland, Juilliard, and Cavani String Quartets, among others. Mr. Snow studies under the tutelage of celebrated pedagogues Heidi Castleman and Misha Amory at The Juilliard School where he is the proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. He plays on a 1900 Joseph Chardon, on generous loan from a private collection for renewal through the course of his education. Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, violinist Anna Tsukervanik began her musical studies at the age of 4. At the age of 14, she won first prize in the Glazunov International Violin Competition in Paris. She is the Grand-Prix winner of the International Violin Competition held in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan. In 2009 she performed with the Gunma Youth Symphony Orchestra Festival in Tokyo, and in concert series with the Symphony Orchestra of Hamburg conducted by Claus-Peter Modest in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. In 2013 she performed her solo debut recital in New York City at the Lyric Chamber Music Society. She has participated in master classes with Leon Fleisher, Guillermo Figueroa, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Elmar Oliveira, Ilya Kaler, Philip Fowke, and Mikhail Gotzdinner. She has also performed alongside distinguished artists such as Ilya Kaler, Lawrence Dutton, Yael Weiss, and Ralph Kirshbaum. Ms. Tsukervanik received her undergraduate degree from the Conservatoire of Uzbekistan


and her master’s degree from Lynn University Conservatory in 2015. Currently, she is pursuing her Doctoral Degree in Violin Performance at Stony Brook University under the tutelage of Philip Setzer. Israeli pianist Yevgeny Yontov won the gold medal at the Wideman International Piano Competition. He has also won top prizes in the Tel-Hai International Concerto Competition in Israel and in the International Piano Competition in Pinerolo, Italy. Season highlights include concerts across the country with orchestras in Florida, Arkansas, and Louisiana. As an active chamber musician, he has offered chamber concerts in Israel, Europe, South America, Canada, and the US, in venues including Carnegie Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. He has performed with colleagues and distinguished artists such as David Shifrin and Paul Neubauer. Additionally, he has performed in many festivals, most recently as a Protégé Artist at Chamber Music Northwest in Portland. Mr. Yontov received his bachelor of music degree summa cum laude from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University studying with Arie Vardi. Soon after he moved to the United States and received his master’s degree in music from the Yale School of Music where he currently is pursuing a doctoral degree in musical arts under the guidance of Boris Berman. Philip Zuckerman began his violin studies at the age of five in his hometown of Örebro, Sweden. His debut performances took place shortly after, at the age of six, in fundraiser concerts for the Swedish charity organization “Radio Help,” contributing to the efforts to help children in need across the world. In recent seasons, he has performed in venues such as Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Peter Jay Sharp Theater, South Bank Centre’s Purcell Room, and Philharmonic Hall Baden-Baden, and with orchestras such as Camerata Nova, Capella Sine Nomine, Malmö Sinfonietta, and Baden-Baden Philharmonic. He has also appeared in concert with Joyce DiDonato, Duncan McTier, as well as members of the Cleveland, Cavani, Yggdrasil, and Vertavo string quartets, and at Usedom Music Festival, Aurora Chamber Music Festival, Gotland Chamber Music Festival, and Perlman Music Program. Mr. Zuckerman continues his studies at The Juilliard School with Itzhak Perlman and Donald Weilerstein. Past teachers include Natasha Beshulya, Catherine Cho, Sylvia Rosenberg, and Ulf Wallin. Mr. Zuckerman plays on a Jean Baptiste Vuillaume violin on generous loan from the private collection of Dr. Peter Hauber, Berlin.
