SEAN LEE

With performances described by the New York Times as “breathtakingly beautiful,” violinist Sean Lee is quickly gaining recognition as one of today’s most talented rising artists. His debut album featuring the Strauss Violin Sonata was released by EMI Classics and reached the Top 20 of the iTunes “Top Classical Albums” list. Having received prizes in the Premio Paganini International Violin Competition and the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, he has appeared as a soloist with the Jerusalem Symphony, Utah Symphony, Orchestra Del Teatro Carlo Felice, Westchester Symphony, Peninsula Symphony, and the Juilliard Orchestra. As a recitalist, he has performed at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium, Festival di Carro Paganiniano, and Wiener Konzerthaus. A former member of Chamber Music Society Two, he has performed with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at Alice Tully Hall, as well as on tour at the LG Arts Center in Seoul, Korea, the St. Cecilia Music Center, and the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park. Mr. Lee currently teaches chamber music at the Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School, and joined the violin faculty of the Perlman Music Program in 2010. He performs on a violin originally made in 1999 for violinist Ruggiero Ricci, by David Bague.

Originally from California, David Chang began his violin studies under the guidance of Margaret Batjer, concertmaster of Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. He has participated in many summer music festivals including the Montecito Summer Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, La Jolla Chamber Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival where he currently is a recipient of the New Horizon Fellowship. He has performed in master classes with Ruggiero Ricci, Li Lin, Jennifer Koh, Abram Stern, Aaron Rosand, Ken Aiso, Martin Beaver, Tong Wei Dong, Robert Levin, Roger Tapping, Laurie Smukler, Daniel Austrich, and Frans Helmerson. Mr. Chang has appeared as a soloist with the All-Southern Middle School Honor Orchestra and Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra where he also served as co-concertmaster in 2012. Mr. Chang is currently studying with David Chan, concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera, at The Juilliard School. Violinist Melanie Clapies is an undergraduate student at Manhattan School of Music. Violist Robert Donowick is an undergraduate student at The Juilliard School.


Katharine Dryden, violist, began her musical studies in her hometown of Buffalo, New York. As a chamber musician, she is a founding member of the Puck Quartet, with which she has participated in master classes with members of the Brentano, American, Tokyo, and Miró Quartets and the Decoda Chamber Ensemble. In 2015, the Puck Quartet was personally selected by Robert Mann to participate in the Robert Mann String Quartet Institute at the Manhattan School of Music. Ms. Dryden has also performed in master classes with Kim Kashkashian and Ani Kavafian, and has attended several festivals including the Manchester Music Festival and the Beethoven Institute at Mannes. Ms. Dryden holds a staff singer and soloist position at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, Connecticut, and has performed with various professional choirs throughout Connecticut. She holds a BA in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from Yale and is completing a degree in viola performance at Purchase College, SUNY where her teachers include Deborah Buck and Danielle Farina. Katherine Kyu Hyeon Lim started performing in concert halls across the Czech Republic at the age of 10. Her appearances include the Rudolfinum, Palffy Palace, and Vysoka (the Museum of Antonín Dvořák). In 2008 she was awarded a scholarship to study with Catherine Lord at Wells Cathedral School in England. In 2011 she toured in Italy with her chamber group after winning England’s Mid-Somerset Festival competition. Ms. Lim has participated in various music festivals including Meadowmount School of Music in the U.S.A., Absolute Classic Festival and Great Mountains International Music Festival & School in South Korea, and Cambridge International String Academy in England. As a soloist, she won the concerto competition at Wells Cathedral School in 2012 and was awarded second prize at East Coast International Competition in New York in 2014. She currently studies with Sally Thomas at The Juilliard School and is a recipient of the Juilliard Scholarship. Emily Javarone was introduced to the violin at the age of six and studied with Nancy Holland and Yowcan Chen until she began her undergraduate studies. She has held leadership positions in several orchestras, and spent a summer performing throughout Europe and China with two prestigious orchestras. Ms. Javarone recently graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in violin performance from The University of Northern Colorado and studied with Richard Fuchs and Jubal Fulks. During her time there she was concertmaster of the University Orchestra, and appeared as a soloist with the University Orchestra in 2014 and 2016. She was also the winner of the UNC concerto competition and the Southard Competition in 2015. As an avid chamber musician, she studied chamber music throughout her undergraduate years, and attended several chamber music festivals, including the Montecito Music Festival and Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival. Ms. Javarone is currently pursuing her master’s degree in violin performance at Purchase Conservatory, and studies with Deborah Buck, the first violinist of the renowned Lark Quartet. Originally from China, pianist Chen Jie began his musical studies at the age of four. He is a first prizewinner of the 13th George Georgescu International Piano


Competition in Romania. He has performed in master classes with Gary Graffman, Seymour Lipkin, Fu Tsong, Stanislav Ioudenitch and Frederic Chiu. Additionally, he has offered recitals in Vienna, Shanghai, Suzhou, Innsbruck, Dallas, and New York. In 2011, he appeared as soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of Nanjing Normal University performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Mr. Jie graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with a bachelor’s degree in music and is currently pursuing a master of music degree under the instruction of Jeffrey Cohen at the Manhattan School of Music. Currently residing at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as participants of the Chrysalis Chamber Music Institute, the Giannini String Quartet is comprised of violinists Lucia Kobza and Nicole Wendl, violist Anastasia Yarbrough, and cellist Eli Kaynor. The quartet has enjoyed recent opportunities such as sharing the stage with pipa virtuoso and founding member of the Silk Road Ensemble, Wu Man, and performing for world-renowned cellist, Yo-Yo Ma. Although freshly formed, the ensemble is already achieving honors both on stage and in competition. In addition to celebrating a very successful summer tour in Spain, they have been awarded an Honorable Mention in the Enkor Chamber Music competition, and have also won second prize and the alternate slot for the National Finals of the MTNA Chamber Music competition. This past year, they participated in Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society masterclass series with Paul Watkins, the current cellist of the Emerson String Quartet, and also performed for Emerson violinist Philip Setzer on the same trip up the coast. Giannini looks forward to another enriching masterclass at Lincoln Center for renowned violinist, Sean Lee. Noah Koh began cello lessons at the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music at the Aaron Copland School of Music in Queens College after studying violin for two years. He continued his studies with a scholarship at the Juilliard Pre-College and also won the Tilles Scholar Award. In 2012 he was a finalist in the Caprio Young Artists Competition. He has spent summers in festivals such as the C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival, Luzerne Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival. His teachers include Ruth Guideri, Clara Yang, Clara Lee Rous, Bonnie Hampton, André Emelianoff, Troy Chang, Gloria DePasquale, David Ying, and Darrett Adkins. Mr. Koh is currently pursuing his undergraduate degree at The Juilliard School and plays a cello made by A. Klein, on loan from the Chi-Mei Foundation in Taiwan. Hailed as a “dynamic and engaging” performer, pianist Stephen Mulvahill possesses an artistry that springs from a simple captivation with music, a probing and eager intellect, and an expressive nature that connects deeply with the language of music. He has distinguished himself in the areas of both solo and collaborative playing, and his lifelong love of intellectual pursuits adds a rare depth and sophistication to his musical activities. Mr. Mulvahill is currently a master’s student of Dr. Dmitri Shteinberg at UNC School of the Arts and a recipient of several scholarships in piano. His former teachers include Hugh Thompson and Tali Morgulis.


Cellist Alana Shannon’s passion for both orchestral and chamber music has brought her down a varied and interesting path. As an orchestral musician, she has participated in the Round Top International Music Festival and the National Orchestral Institute, and performed throughout the United States in venues such as Davies Symphony Hall and Carnegie Hall, and throughout the UK, Italy, Austria, and the Czech Republic as a member of the San Francisco-based Villa Sinfonia Orchestra. Ms. Shannon has also performed with IU Orchestras as a principal cellist, and played professionally with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. As an avid chamber musician, Ms. Shannon has performed with a wide variety of chamber groups, and her recording of the Shostakovich Piano Quintet was recently featured on WQXR NY Public Radio. She has also had the privilege of working on chamber music under the guidance of Janos Starker, André Watts, and the Pacifica Quartet, among others, and has participated in master classes with Ani Kavafian, Zuill Bailey, and Robert DeMaine. Ms. Shannon holds a Bachelor’s degree and Performance Diploma from Indiana University where she studied with Peter Stumpf. She is currently working towards her Master’s degree at Purchase College, SUNY under the tutelage of Julia Lichten. Born and raised in Rhode Island, violinist Cami Sylvia began her studies at the age of ten. Ms. Sylvia has performed in public master classes led by artists such as the Muir String Quartet, Apple Hill String Quartet, Tim Fain, Colin Carr, and Ani Kavafian. In 2014 she attended the Summer Strings at New York University and a year later she participated in the first Music Mountain Chamber Music master class series. While an undergraduate student she headed a student string quartet and the Rhode Island College Chamber Orchestra for three years. In 2015 she led the Purchase Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 under guest conductor Roger Nierenberg. A recipient of the full-tuition Helen Forman Special Talents Scholarship, she received her Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Rhode Island College and studied with John Sumerlin. Ms. Sylvia is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at SUNY Purchase under the guidance of Deborah Buck.
