Residential Life’s Expectations

Residential Life’s Expectations of Residents We get what we give. Respect property, beliefs and other people as you would ask them to respect you, your beliefs and your belongings. Being part of a community is accepting there will be conflict and addressing it appropriately as it arises.

Assume the role of leader and follower. Individual Responsibility is a character attribute which speaks to one’s integrity. We are asking you to hold your own values and embrace the standards of the University of Hartford. This is how we show members of our community that we are leaders. Part of the University of Hartford’s standard is a commitment to community. One way to show this to others is by holding each other accountable. It is a challenge to speak up, although until you do it, no one will. Be the positive influence you can be; the leader you are.

We are the only ones who can change our environments. Residence life programs are established on various campuses across the nation to provide students opportunities to grow individually and collectively. One major learning experience we expect you to have is the ability to Self Advocate. Learn to express your needs and challenges. Not just for yourself but also for those that do not have a voice. We encourage you to take action to better your environment.

Ultimately, our hope and expectation is that residential students will develop a sense of ownership and pride in their community.

What is Community Damage Billing? This is divided into two different ways: Floor or Building Floor Damages occur in common areas, such as hallways, floor lounges, and bathrooms. These charges are divided among all the residents of that particular floor.

Building Damages occur in stairwells, basements, main entrance, and kitchens where applicable. The total damage cost incurred is split among all the residents of the building.

Residential Life Descriptions Community Damage is the responsibility of all residents in university housing who are part of a larger community on campus.

Vandalism or tampering with fire extinguishers, exit signs, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, smoke detectors, and other fire safety equipment robs the community of its fire protection.
