The Central St. Jude Bike-A-Thon is coming this Saturday, May 10th! This annual event, which has been going on for over thirty years in this community, raises money for St, Jude, a hospital that treats children regardless of their ability to pay for treatment. This is a wonderful charity and a fun event for kids and adults of all ages. Bring your bike and your helmet and join the fun at 8:30 AM on May 10th at the Village at Magnolia Square, rain or shine! If you cannot be there this Saturday, you can still contribute to this great cause. Proceeds from the bike-a-thon go to St. Jude Children's Research

Hospital. St Jude treats children with serious illnesses, regardless of their ability to pay for treatment. Children from all around the country have benefitted from St. Jude, and from the generosity of people like you, including kids from Central and surrounding areas. St. Jude is funded largely through charitable donations. If you would like to contribute but cannot attend the bike-a-thon this Saturday, visit this link to donate to St. Jude through the Central Bike-A-Thon: https://waystohelp.stjude.org/sjVPortal/public/event/ page/displayEventPage.do?sectionStyle=subMenuF our&eventId=358918&programId=2002 Thank you for your support!

Jason Ellis will take office beginning in June with the rest of the newly elected council members, mayor, and chief of police. Ellis is married to Kim Carmena Ellis and father to Jackson and Karson.

CAPA Corner: The Crown of Life

James 1:12 “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” Why do we endure temptation? The most common answer to this question is: to receive the crown of life. But in all honesty this is not why we endure. The crown of life is a promise to those who remain faithful in trying times; its automatic. The crown of life is not why we endure; it is what we receive when we endure. So why do we endure temptation? The Christian endures temptation because he loves God. If you look at the last part of that verse, “…which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” Being obedient to the first and great commandment: Love God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind, … will get you through the fiery furnaces, the lions dens, the enemy’s hands, the raging storms, and the darkest valleys. To love God is to know God. How do we know God? I John 2:3-6 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and

the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” How do we love God and our Lord Jesus Christ? John 14:15,21 & 23 [Jesus said] “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” “If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” Being obedient to God’s holy word allows the Holy Spirit to come into our lives and help us grow in the knowledge of God. The more God is revealed to us the stronger our love will be for him. The stronger our love, the stronger our faith, and when we are tried we will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him. In Christ’s Love, Kenny Kepper Pastor, Berean Ministries

From the Principal’s Pen...

CENTRAL PRIVATE SCHOOL – CARING AND DEMANDING

I wrote this article during Easter break. This week I have seen many parents, teachers, and board members working to make your school better. The ones I have observed are certainly not on the payroll and are doing things to help children because they believe in the mission of the school and spend their own money and labor to back that up. Not only during a school break, but every day, I observe people “paying a debt to our future” by their support for the academic and athletic wellbeing of the students. I am reminded that many years ago my mentor superintendent asked that I write a personal essay on what I considered to be the one most important factor in having great schools. My first thought was great teachers and charismatic visionary leaders. Then I recognized that neither of these most important elements would last very long in a school without a supportive, demanding school community with parents as the most important group within that community. Being an interim principal with no future career aspirations, I can say things

other educators might be hesitant to discuss. For example, the tuition paid for students to have a private, effective school experience at Central Private is most modest. I will not bore you with the facts, but when I mention the tuition for Central Private, my friends from other places recoil in disbelief. This fortunate situation is made possible by dedicated individuals who go way beyond any minimal expectations. Accordingly, the school is governed by a dedicated board of directors, who not only make policy for the school, but who personally contribute to the students’ well-being in so many ways. The demand for the school is up witnessed by the number of parents seeking its services. Thank you to all who pour their hearts into Central Private to make it an excellent school. We encourage interested parents to call the school office to learn more about the great opportunities that await their student. —Dr. Jim Surratt Interim Principal

She also has a noteworthy perspective on breast cancer as a survivor, caregiver, and volunteer. Nurses run in the family, with two of Kristy's sisters, her daughter & daughter-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends being nurses or students. Please take some time to acknowledge and thank any nurses you know for answering the call to be there when we need them the most. Bless you all, and Happy Nurses' Week!
