Financing your EDUCATION

Most of the funding for graduate students comes in the form of graduate assistantships and campus-based employment.

PRIMARY SOURCES

Graduate assistantships

Academic departments provide numerous research, teaching and administrative assistantships. As a graduate assistant, you work for a department or unit and in return receive tuition waivers and stipends. There are both full-time and part-time GAs. Contact your academic department to see what’s available and how to apply.

Campus employment

There are jobs for students all over campus. You apply for campus positions by visiting Student Employment Services at cmich.edu/about/human-resources/ student-employment-opportunities or in person at 121 Bovee University Center. Students may work a maximum of 40 hours every two weeks on campus.

Student loans

For complete information on this option, contact financialaid.cmich.edu.

SECONDARY SOURCES

Tuition reimbursement programs

Some corporations, schools and other organizations offer tuition reimbursement for employees and their families. Be sure to check with your employer or your parent’s or spouse’s employer.

Public service foundations and organizations

They may take some looking but be sure to contact your local Chamber of Commerce and other local service organizations to see if any provide university scholarship or subsidized loan programs.

All main campus students who are U.S. residents qualify for in-state tuition.*
