The CEO and executive leadership team drive the business of council and offer councillors advice.

Governance principles.

Council establishes operational and strategic priorities that align with the community plan, corporate plan and operational plan. The community elects the councillors and mayor and provides input through the community plan and consultations to determine the region’s priorities.

The audit committee provides an independent external review of our governance, financials and internal control framework. The Australian and Queensland governments provide authority to council under the Local Government Act 2009 and endow funding for various programs.

The Central Highlands Development Corporation manages the economic and tourism facets of the local government area. Board members comprise of councillors, the CEO and independent directors.
