3. End to the various polices of containment such as racial profiling, stop and frisk, gang injunctions, secure communities, etc. 4. End the “War on Drugs” and all of its related laws, policies and programs 5. Enact democratically elected “Police Control Boards” , with the power to fire, subpoena, and indict police officers for human rights violations 6. Demilitarization of domestic law enforcement, including eliminating the use of Drones and various surveillance operations and institutions. 7. The redirection of military funding to social programs, such as public education, housing, health care, public transportation, and grassroots-controlled programs to prevent domestic and intra-communal violence. 8. Legislate and enact a National Plan of Action for Racial Justice that will make the United States government compliant with all the norms and standards of the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) on all levels These demands reflect our analysis grounded in the strategy of fighting for self-determination and human rights for our people. The objective of MXGM is to fight for these demands in coordination with the demands that have been raised in the Black Lives Matter movement for defunding police and the demand for anti-racist justice. This issue of BAMN comes at a momentous time in our people’s struggle and the BAMN staff is excited to share the political and cultural contributions in this issue in recognition of Black August Resistance 2020.
