STUDENT SPOTLIGHT Kelly O’Day Home Institution: Indiana University Program: AIFS Richmond, the International University in London, UK “What can be better than sitting on beautiful River Thames, with Parliament in your peripheral, Big Ben’s chime in your ear, Westminster Abbey within reach and the London Eye right before your eyes? It’s the most picturesque spot of London, the postcard of London; everything London in one glance. And it’s where I came to right every journal entry all the way up to this one, my last. Studying in a foreign country can be on of the most inspiring experiences ever. When I decided that I wanted a semester abroad to be a part of my college experience, I researched several programs, but was instantly drawn to the AIFS London program. Since the day I arrived, I have never regretted my decision to apply for this program. Coming here, I didn’t know anyone. So it’s safe to say that the time change was not the only adjustment I had to manage. However, it was only a matter of hours that I would meet the group of individuals that changed my life, and now consider some of my closest friends. Among afternoons on the river, concerts in the park, Saturday’s in Notting Hill, meandering in Harrods and getting the inside scoop about every inch of London via the various AIFS tours, I can’t decide what my favorite moment was. And that doesn’t even include the weekend getaways I took on my own to Paris, Dublin, Amsterdam, Rome, Scotland, Munich and Barcelona. The word ‘study’ in study abroad cannot be forgotten; for that is the reason I was in London! And I must say, the courses I took were the best, most enjoyable courses I have ever taken. I am a business major, so my schedule focused on the business administration and economics courses. I also took photojournalism as an elective, where I managed to take more than 3,000 pictures! A semester in your pocket full of cultural enrichment, moving experiences and memories that will last a lifetime isn’t something you ever want to leave. Looking back, I cannot believe that has come to an end. However, I couldn’t be more appreciative for this experience. I would recommend the AIFS program to anyone who is interested. Thank you AIFS for the everlasting knowledge, cultural and friendships!”
