“This magazine is truly an inspiration to all, Even though I am very new to the Maya world, I hope one day to be as good as the images depicted in this magazine. I aspire to be that good, with time, effort and a lot of tutorials I hope to be there in the next few years. Thanks Ceiga for this amazing mag. Richard Jones

Editors Letter Since the Saddington Baynes issue of Ceiga (issue 17) – I’ve decided to dedicate the main Ceiga magazine to lesser known digital production agencies around the world which has been working out really well, but I still wanted to create an outlet to show off amazing work from the everyday cg artist. That’s where Ceiga Plus comes in. I’m very excited to unveil the first “experimental“ issue of Ceiga Plus. Experimental because this is the first ever issue of Ceiga that I’m planning to charge money for and also experimental because I can’t decided on how much to charge for it. So I’m letting you guys do it by making it a ‘pay what you want’ issue. I’ve also made this issue a bit more personal by giving the artist a choice of one question to answer about their work or interest and also showing the avatar of the artist. I hope you enjoy this issue, and if you want to appear in the next issue of Ceiga Plus please submit your work to info@ceiga.co.uk. I’m alway on the lookout for talented cg artists.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE MOST FRUSTRATING PART OF YOUR WORK? In my view, what could be frustrating in doing 3D work, is that even if you never stop to improve your skill, your workflow... you never reach the perfection you’re looking for when you start a new project. And so it’s hard to stop working on a project and tell yourself “ok, this one is good, you can move on another work.”

WHAT ARE PEOPLES REACTIONS WHEN YOU TELL THEM WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING? That’s a good question. The works that I’ve been developing are looking to reflect its own identity, I mean, being capable in a timeless way to tell a story, to reinterpert and bring something new to this industry. But it is not always easy to explain this story and what we did to tell it. For many, we just make images, for others we create digital art, reproduced in the lighting of a building, in the detail of vegetation or in a texture of a sofa. The reaction of the people will always be different because each one will understand in their own way our work. Some are fascinated and surprised in every new publication, whether related to this area or not. Others stand by the comments or simply like it or devalue it. There will always be various interpretations. It will be our responsibility to surprised at every new work, because after all, is not what we do?

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DO YOUR WORK? What inspires me the most is a good challenge, music and photography are also great allies for inspiration and I always try to capture my feelings in each scene I make and especially leaving my label as cg artist.

IF YOU COULD EAT ANYTHING IN THE WORLD WHAT WOULD YOU EAT AND WHY? If I can eat something from fiction, I would really wish to eat chocolate frogs from Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone. Eating a live frong is a little freaky, but I loved collecting pocket monster stickers when I was a child. Most of all, I’m crazy for chocolate.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DO YOUR WORK? First of all, I love my job. My inspiration comes from everything around me in everyday life. I try to follow and learn from the best 3D artists such as SĂŠrgio MerĂŞces, Jacinto Monteiro, Thi Lima, Peter Guthrie, Juraj Talcik, and of course with all new artists with great works. I think the most important thing is to never give up what really gives us pleasure.
