It was a classic all-American fairy tale: Baseball legend wins the heart of Hollywood’s hottest young star. Their first date was at Villa Nova, an Italian restaurant that is now The Rainbow Bar & Grill on L.A.’s Sunset Boulevard. Monroe, hesitant about dating an athlete, was two hours late, but the pair hit it off. On New Years Eve two years later, the couple were in the Bay Area visiting DiMaggio’s family when he proposed. They married at the San Francisco courthouse 14 days later.
