ndividual style can’t be taught…no matter how much one may spend trying to achieve it. You either have it or you don’t. If you do, it oozes from every ounce of your being. The way you wear a dress or jewelry, or decorate your home, will be consistently you. In this, our fashion issue, the women we highlight are stylish to their very core. Jessica Alba is a perfect example. She has the fashionable mommy/off-duty actress look down. Always chic in every image, she exudes elegance. Not content to rest on her laurels, she has parlayed a busy on-screen career into an even busier entrepreneurial role. Creating a brand full of natural products catering to children has made her even more of a power player—on her own terms. Another woman doing things her own way is designer Pamela Skaist-Levy. Having cofounded Juicy Couture and then selling it years later, she wasn’t ready to just sit back. She and partner Gela Nash-Taylor decided it was time to create another special line, Skaist-Taylor. The company’s DNA is so distinctively Californian that it is sure to be a big success. When Skaist-Levy needs to unwind, she retreats to her inspiring home in Los Angeles—an estate at once grand and elegant but cool at the same time. The same could be said of Skaist-Levy.

It truly is a healing spot…and so authentically Lindvall. We shot her in the season’s best bohemian looks, in the most organic location of all—her home! And when thinking of individual style, it doesn’t get any more interesting than the bright young things in our big fashion portfolio, “The Kids Are Alright.” With uber cool girl Jacqui Getty curating this talented group, we knew we had the new “in” crowd. That they are all accomplished and stylish in their own right only added to the project’s uniqueness. And, with famed photographer (and former CFDA Perry Ellis award-winning designer) David Cameron at the helm, it was a dream shoot. To the point that style can’t be taught, the reason the stories come together so seamlessly is that they all express what is personal and authentic. When reading through our biggest issue ever (and our eighth anniversary issue on
