FASHION Through Paolo Roversi’s lens, designs by Dior seem to transcend mere wardrobe. The Italian photographer creates poetic portraits, memorializing models such as a luminous Kate Moss, swathed in a transparent coat from the French fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2015 haute couture collection, in photo shoots for the likes of Vogue Paris, among others. Almost 100 such images buoy Dior Images: Paolo Roversi (Rizzoli New York, $125), a new 168-page tome. In his opening essay, philosopher Emanuele Coccia notes: “Fashion is nothing but the art of realizing visions.” Often soft in focus and inspired by Byzantine culture, Roversi’s vision is enthralling. After all, as he wrote to late Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani, “We tried to glorify these unique, extraordinary pieces, whose artisanal work often borders on magic.”
