Skincare savant Kristina Holey was first drawn to the East Bay for its slower pace, close proximity to San Francisco and cultural diversity. “There’s an amazing community of inspiring, creative people [in Berkeley and Oakland] that we call family,” says the Ojai-born facialist, whose holistic, eponymous Tendernob studio has earned her international renown. Between spells in Paris and New York, Holey has called the East Bay home for more than 10 years, on and off. Here, she shares her beloved Berkeley hangouts. • Marie Veronique’s skincare shop on Solano Avenue, which I found when I was looking for someone to talk “skin” with. We have built a strong relationship over the last few years, and we just launched our latest seven-piece line in September. marieveronique.com. • Leaves & Flowers is a beautiful workshop where Anna Morton and Emily Erb create handcrafted herbal infusions and premium smallbatch teas. leavesandflowers.com. • Standard Fare in West Berkeley for local, healthy, delicious meals. It has become my handsdown favorite spot for lunch. standardfareberkeley.com. • Tail of the Yak is artist Lauren McIntosh’s creatively curated shop for gifts, decorative pieces, etc. I always stop in for ornate candles, pom-poms, strands of ribbon, soaps and more. 2632 Ashby Ave., Berkeley, 510-841-9891.
