“Everything looked glossy, shiny, sparkly and wonderful,” jewelry designer SarahJane Wilde says of the celluloid vision that first lured her to L.A. It’s that hyper-real beauty, juxtaposed with gothic undertones, that weaves its way through all of Wilde’s 1970s-inspired work, including frequent collaborations with her best friend, fashion designer Thom Browne, and collections for Maxfield. Her latest concept, dubbed Remember You Must Die,, began as a commission for the late David Bowie. “I did not finish fast enough,” she says. “It became a collection about memento mori.” Featuring skeletal iconography—“because that’s what we leave behind”—and other symbols of death and remembrance, the rarefied pieces are rendered in 18-karat white, rose and yellow gold and diamonds. “It’s all about making physical objects connected to our temporary lives to create memories.” Here, the self-described “elegant, flashy-chic grandmother”-styled Wilde, who was raised across Europe and New York, lets us in on the everyday gems that are catching her eye. sarahjanewilde.com.
