A Success Story! International Finalist at the 2008 United Nations Education Program Awards in Sweden In 2006, the program began in Shanghai with 9 company, 6 school and 76 student participants. To date, 160 companies, 60 high schools and colleges, 2,000 students and 20,000 employees have learned sustainable work practices in China!
ECOaudit USA During the inaugural academic calendar year of the 2009 – 2010, twenty-three businesses/ government offices were audited in the Puget Sound Region by seventytwo students enrolled in upper middle school through college curriculum programs. This level of participation exceeded our goals for the inaugural year!
Footnotes: *This is the estimated cumulative savings reported by Shanghai companies that implemented the eco-reduction strategies that our students recommended in 2008 and re-audited in 2009! ** To assess the results of the audits in the reduction of resource use and carbon footprint, students have so far conducted sixty re-audits in Shanghai. On average, re-audited offices have achieved an average of 31% reduction in paper use, 12% less electricity consumption and 25% less water usage. ***Shanghai companies that participated in the Eco-Audit program announced green results and reduced carbon footprints. By providing environmental audits and eco habit training, participating corporations reported aggregate reductions of 665,499 kg of C02 ( 1 ,467,000 lbs) of CO2 from 2008-2009.
