LadyCats Soccer Continues On Tuesday, Sept. 7th, the WCHS LadyCats soccer team traveled to Fairview to face the Yellowjackets. Fairview had a strong team, and they scored 6 unanswered goals in the first half, and two more in the second half. The Wildcats fans had something to cheer about as senior striker Shelby Blalock scored on a fast break with only a few minutes left in the game. Goalie Heidi Frazier had a busy night with 23 saves. On Thursday, Sept. 16th, the LadyCats traveled to Hickman County to face the Lady Bulldogs. The LadyCats scored first on a shot by senior Ashley Duncan, but the Bulldogs came back with 2 goals by halftime. Sophomore Kristen Wooten scored again for the LadyCats, but the Lady Bulldogs added 3 more goals to win 5-2. On Tuesday, Sept. 21st, the LadyCats hosted district powerhouse Spring Hill. The WCHS fans had little to cheer about, as the Raiders scored 9 first half goals and 2 in the second half. On Thursday, Sept. 23rd, the LadyCats traveled to Columbia to face the CA Lady Bulldogs. Again their opponents dominated the first half, scoring 7 goals. One goal in the second half made the final score 8-0 CA. Heidi had 17 saves, and backup goalie Brandi Delk had 7. The LadyCats hosted Giles County yesterday. The location and opponent for tomorrow’s game is uncertain. The LadyCats host Marshall County next Monday at 4:30 P.M., and East Hickman Tuesday at 5 P.M. for their last home

games of the season. Come out and support the

Proud To Be A Recipient Of “Books From Birth

In celebration of The Governor’s Books from Birth/Dolly Parton Imagination Library Week, September 20-24, Keirsten Irene Reatherford, who just turned five on August 27, wants to say a big “THANK YOU for all the wonderful books she has received since she was enrolled in the program as an infant. Every month, Keirsten received a beautiful, new book to enjoy with her parents— and they were all FREE!! She is pictured here with her last book, the one every child receives on the month they turn five—Look Out Kindergarten, Here I Come. If you have a child between birth and five, and he/she is not enrolled in this program, you can easily sign your child up for these FREE BOOKS by picking up a form at Peoples Bank, filling it out (it’s very short and easy), then leaving it at Peoples Bank for them to process. Within five to six weeks, your child will receive his/her first book, and will continue receiving them until the age of five. What a wonderful program! We in Tennessee should be very thankful. And we in Wayne County have Peoples Bank to thank for the county portion of the cost of each child’s books, since Peoples Bank is the gracious sponsor of this program for every child in Wayne County who is registered. Keirsten is the daughter of Greg and Clara Reatherford of Waynesboro. Her “Grammie, Judy McDonald, is a member of Alpha Rho Chapter, Xi State (Tennessee), Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and serves on Xi State Literacy Committee. Xi State is a partner in the GBFB/Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Sept. 29-P.

DRIVER LICENSE ROADSIDE SAFETY CHECKPOINTS The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting driver license roadside safety checkpoints during the week of Oct. 3, 2010 on U. S. 64 at 1.5 M.M. and 12 M.M. all in Lawrence County. Recognizing the danger presented to the public by unqualified drivers, Troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who would violate the driver license laws of Tennessee. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found these driver license roadside safety checkpoints to be an effective means of enforcing driver license laws of Tennessee while ensuring the protection of all motorists.

Because of the hard work of the Collinwood Elementary students, Robert Vandiver got two pies in his face. The students surpassed their fundraiser goal amount for their spring fundraiser. Wayne County Schools’ Superintendent Wanda Johnston and Chloe Montgomery each smeared a cream pie in Mr. Vandiver’s Face. This Friday Mr. Vandiver will spend the day on the roof of C.E.S. because of the success of the recent Mum sale.
