where you go out and the soil isn’t white, frozen, or so slippery you fall down every third step. To learn more about planting, caring for, and harvesting a garden, stop by the extension office, drop us a line (that means call us for the non-fishing audience), or go to the UT Extension 4-H website and print off a project activity sheet that contains fun and educational gardening trivia. You will learn more about how plants grow, learn what germination means, be able to identify the parts of a plant, and much more. To visit the website, just go to any search engine and type Tennessee 4-H. The homepage is

bright yellow, and in the middle is a link about projects. Click on the link and scroll halfway down the page until you see the horticulture/gardening link. There are activity sheets for beginners all the way to the advanced gardeners. While you’re there, you can visit more than 20 other project activities and find out how long it takes a chicken egg to hatch, the normal temperature of a dog, or even how to sew a pillowcase.

skating rinks. We had a Fonz, with the leather jacket, a Ralph Mouth, a Richie, and a local Rock and Roll band. A couple of band members now have recording studios in Nashville. “Buster’s Pool Hall” was a “boy’s club” He was his own bouncer. Troublemakers were tossed in the street with Buster yelling, “Don’t come back!” They’d whine to his brother, Homer. He’d calm Buster down and they’d get back in. I played “Rod” Stewart, the best. It cost me a lot of dimes, but I learned. In the army, I was called “Slick Willie,” a famous pool player. I “met” Margie in Buster’s pool hall. I got out of the army and went back to my old hang-out. I was sitting on the spectator bench. A schoolmate strolled in. He was home from his up-north RR job. I asked “Whatcha doing tonight?” He said, “I’ve got a date.” I replied, “Get me one!” He did, and I’ve still got her! We double-dated to the Corinth Drive-in. When we got back to “Baldy” Smith’s Truck Stop, my

shiny black 62 Chevy was covered in toilet paper. Jealousy had overcome some poor girl. I had to quit pool. I “could see” Margie’s face in every pocket! We were married in 1965 and have “lived happily ever after.” We hit a few bumps in the road, but stayed faithful. A “friend” wanted to “fix me up” with strange lips. I said, “I don’t know about that?” He replied, “Adultery is a pretty big word, isn’t it?” It is. I’ve never forgotten what he said. In 1967, we met the Lord. I’ve stayed close to Him and Margie. Adultery was really out of the question then. Margie would probably shoot me and the Lord would burn me! Two fine children, and four adorable Grandboys later, it keeps getting better. Buster’s son, Larry, is back in town and a good friend. I yell, “Rack in the back!” when I see him. I shared my love story of how his dad put Margie and me together. He likes it. I’d like to thank the Lord and the late Buster Snodgrass for 45 years of “Happy Days.”
