Tim and Kimberly Schnell P '21 '23: Making an Impact!
When Tim and Kimberly Schnell learned of the Diocese of San Diego’s plans to relocate the then Uni High campus to North County San Diego with a new stateof-the-art campus, they were immediately intrigued by the vision and wanted to financially support the effort. Since the relocation of the school’s campus, the Schnell family has made consistent and significant financial investments in the school.
“Kimberly and I believe that Cathedral Catholic offers a Christian-based education with quality academics, a wide-ranging curriculum, an energetic team of teachers and a wide variety of extracurricular activities and sports on a superior campus. The school has a diversified student body that represents the greater San Diego community. The school has a strong patriotic affiliation with an education that has a respectful balance to God and country that aligns with our family values,” said Tim. “We are happy to financially support a school that provides such a meaningful learning environment.”
Kimberly echoed similar sentiments. “I believe that Cathedral Catholic offers a wellrounded faith-based education to a diverse student population,” she shared. “We are especially drawn to Cathedral Catholic’s focus on special education. Bringing together a broad socio-economic and learning community makes the Cathedral Catholic experience unique and impactful for everyone. There is no other school in San Diego that serves all students like Cathedral Catholic does.”
Tim and Kimberly believe that giving back to one’s community is a moral imperative. Tim said, “Giving back to your community is essential and a core value for our family. We have been blessed in many ways and feel the best way to show gratitude and appreciation for our blessings is to share our gifts with others.”
Most recently, the Schnells have gifted both their treasure and their time through spearheading the remodel of the Academic Center. In addition to a sizable donation for the project, the Schnells worked closely with the interior designer and with our employees on the design of the space. The newly remodeled Academic Center features new furniture, offices, rugs and paint.
The Schnells also believe the impact of their gifts extend beyond the Cathedral Catholic campus. “A Cathedral Catholic education prepares students to be confident, respectful of others and Christian-based contributors to society which will make the world a better place,” shared Tim. God knows we need that today.
The Schnells chose Cathedral Catholic for their youngest daughters, Jackie ‘21 and Cate ‘23. Jackie is now at the University of Texas, Austin, and Cate plans to attend the University of Tennessee next year to play volleyball.
We are grateful for the total donation of $400,000 by the Conway, Grunsky, Kaminsky, Perry, Schnell and Whitworth families for the remodel. Thanks to their generosity, the Academic Center has become a much more usable, lively space! Students are often found here before school, during break and lunch and after school studying and socializing.
