Central Catholic High School is happy to welcome Louis Vasquez to the athletic staff!

Vasquez, attended Corsicana High School in Corsicana, Texas, a rural town near Dallas. He attended Texas Tech University where he received numerous awards and honors in football including: 2007 All-Big 12 honorable mention, Big 12 second-team, 2008 Rivals.com second team All-American, and 2008 Associated Press third team All-American.

He was drafted into the NFL in the 3rd round (78th overall) in 2009 by the San Diego Chargers, whom he played with until 2012. During his time with the Chargers, Vasquez became the sole rookie in the starting lineup after competing for the right guard starting position with 9-year veteran, Kynan Forney. Vasquez won the spot and stayed there throughout his tenure with the Chargers. He was the only rookie on the Chargers to be apart of the All-Rookie team that year.

In 2013, Vasquez signed a four-year contract with the Denver Broncos. He was selected to be in the 2014 Pro Bowl after not allowing a single sack in 2013. He could not play due to the Broncos appearance in Super Bowl XLVIII. On February 7, 2016, Vasquez was part of the Broncos team that won Super Bowl L (50). In the game, the Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers by a score of 24–10. Vasquez retired from the NFL in 2016 after three seasons with the Denver Broncos. Get to know him more below!

What were your main motivations for becoming an athlete?

Growing up with little to no money, times were hard and football was an outlet for me. I also grew up watching the Dallas Cowboys and always wanted to be a professional football player but as a young Hispanic kid from a small town with no money, I never thought that would be achievable. My Grandfather was one of my biggest heroes, but athletes I looked up to were, Anthony Munoz and Larry Allen.

What do you most enjoy about athletics?

I enjoy the structure, the commitment, and the discipline it takes to be the best at what you do. It also teaches and molds young men and young women into strong leaders and model citizens.

What have been your most meaningful personal and professional achievements?

My most meaningful personal achievement was becoming a husband and father.

My most meaningful professional achievement was my grandfather seeing me become an All-pro, and winning the Super Bowl all while carrying his name (which is whom I am named after).

What advice do you have for our current students and alumni, who need bit of encouragement to pursue their career goals/dreams?

There’s no substitute for hard work. When you’re having a bad day, keep your head down and work. When you’re having a good day, keep your head down and work. Control what you can control and everything else will work itself out. Remember the fight is your friend!
