Civil Construction Pathways to Employment
Civil Train - RTO 45621
The year 2021 has kicked off with a new pre-employment program to support new workers seeking to enter the civil construction industry.
Understanding the diverse needs of the program participants, Civil Train has implemented a creative support program to maximise completion and encourage work readiness.
Our RII20715 Certificate II in Civil Construction program will run until June, supporting three cohorts during this time. Two groups of participants will complete 12 weeks’ full-time training before transitioning into work.
The third group of leaners are working with our project partner and CCF SA Member, Indigenous Training and Recruitment (ITR), and will complete a 24-week program, alternating weeks of training with work placement. ITR will also be providing mentoring to our Aboriginal participants on the program.
‘Flexible Fridays’ is an initiative of the program to assist participants manage their lives (personal appointments, caring responsibilities etc) without disruption to their training.
During this time, we also arrange for additional supports such as mentoring, learning support services, drug and alcohol and health awareness.
Participants will also be required to undertake independent study on these days to supplement their formal training, as well as logging simulator hours.
As well as a Certificate II, learners will achieve their White Card and WZTM accreditation. We have been able to incorporate IT Loader operations into their program, by integrating our seven Volvo loader simulators.
Within the program, learners will be exposed to employers via career talks, work experience and site tours. Renewal SA’s Works Program is once again supporting Civil Train by offering work experience opportunities and site tours for the participants. We aim to have at least 70% of participants employed at the end of the program.
Employers do not need to wait until the end of the program to interact and start talking to the participants. Why not see the program as a recruitment pathway for your business, whereby you can observe potential workers in action at our live site, track their progress throughout the duration of the training program, perhaps even offer them an unpaid work trial to test them out in your setting, with no obligation?
So, if you are looking for your next entry level employee or apprentice, speak to Vanessa at Civil Train to discuss how you can engage with our diverse group of learners.
