Preserving Farmland Protecting and improving the integrity of our environment and maintaining ecological systems enable prosperity in Sullivan County. Expanding populations cause growing consumer demands on the agriculture and food system. This magnifies challenges of balancing food production and processing with land stewardship and protection of the environment. The long-term sustainability of agriculture is inexorably linked to environmental quality.

SPOTLIGHT ON: AGRICULTURE DISTRICTS Agricultural Districts are an important tool for providing the local farming community with certain safeguards to keep agricultural lands in agricultural production and use. Every year, there is an annual 30-day ay window for inclusion into an Agricultural District. There is an application on process, site visits, reviews by the Sullivan County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board, and reports to the Sullivan County Legislature and NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets.
