Corrosion Resistant: powder coating and Low friction painting

These days though both are used for industrial purposes to enhance metal life, but some factors are there to be focused before selecting the process. Coating the Powder is generally much thicker than fluids, typically greater than 5mils compared to 1 or 2 mils for fluids. Powders commonly protect substrates from corrosion and erosion wear, or provide release or aesthetic qualities. Fluid coatings, in contrast, are preferred for friction, abrasion, spilling wear corrosion applications that require low friction and release.

In the view of performance powder coatings also provide processing advantages over fluid painting. Because powders are environmental friendly as they do not contain volatile organic compounds. This type of coating combines properties of both plastics and paints. While adopting liquid paints overspray releases solvents into the atmosphere. On the other had using powder are completely recyclable. The majority of this process have relied on either an epoxy or polyester resin base. With the most popular method of electrostatic spraying powder is given a charge and sprayed onto electrically grounded parts, then baking them to complete the cure. Non conductive parts must be primed or heated to provide them with more electrostatic attraction.

Low friction paint is popular due to its advantages of fine thickness film as thin as 0.2 mils without affecting their integrity. It requires less clearance to accommodate. Another advantage of fluid coating is that manufacturer can apply them by conventional and electrostatic spray processes, as well as by brush and dip methods. This method is particularly applicable for components with deep recesses that are difficult to coat with powders using electrostatic means as the charged particles adhere to the outer edge of the recess.
