Somersby manufacturer wins $16 million export contract SOMERSBY ENGINEERING COMPANY RR Taylor Pty Ltd has commenced a $16.2 million contract to supply, install and operate medical waste processing facilities in hospitals in Sri Lanka. RR Taylor won the contract against international competition with its innovative MetaMizer 240SSS unit which sterilises and shreds medical waste before converting it into a granulated product to be disposed of more easily. A condition of the tender was for the project to be debt funded. RR Taylor achieved with the support of Efic (Australia’s export credit agency). Mr Kaye said that Efic had been very helpful in assisting with the deal. The first unit was shipped to Sri Lanka last April. The total contract of 20 machines will be supplied over the coming 18 months. The contract for the supply of the MetaMizer units was signed in 2013 but not ratified by the Sri Lankan Government until March this year. R R Taylor Managing Director, Warren Kaye has been working on developing this unit for a number of years and has been negotiating with the Sri Lankan government since 2008. Negotiations were set back due to the GFC and several national elections in Sri Lanka. This is also good news for the Central Coast as the company uses local suppliers and will employ a further five people. “We are now looking for more opportunities in Indonesia, India and the Middle East.â€? he said. Mr Kaye said that there is also a market in regional NSW. “We are talking to NSW Government as the MetaMizer would be ideal in regional areas. Right now hospital waste has to be trucked back to the capital cities for disposal. Processing daily waste on-site is environmentally superior and would save big money,â€? he said. RR Taylor also manufactures a varied range

All of these products have export potential as well as for sale in the Australian market. Meanwhile, R R Taylor is excited about their delivery of the first batch of new Turret Gas Fittings to an overseas winery. Having been approached by the winery with some ideas of modifying an existing gas turret ball-lock fitting to better suit the customer’s needs, RR Taylor worked with the winery to design a new fitting. By working closely with their customer to provide a total manufacturing solution from component machining to assembly R R Taylor has shown that Australian manufacture and quality can exceed the customer’s expectations.
