Children’s Cancer Association’s Programs and Resources CCA’s Kids’ Cancer Pages directories are provided free of cost to every pediatric hospital in the U.S. The directory is used by social workers and hospital staff to help families identify valuable resources. Copies with noted recommendations are then provided to families to help them in their journey. MyMusicRx.org, the only online music medicine program of its kind, is available to seriously ill kids and teens – anywhere in the U.S. and Canada – on any given day, 24/7. MyMusicRx enables members to play and download free music games, explore digital instruments, record original music, and watch exclusive video greetings from their favorite artists. MyMusicRx can be found on the GetWell Network in a growing number of pediatric hospitals across the U.S. CCA’s flagship MusicRx® program soothes and rejuvenates hospitalized children, teens, their family members, and the medical professionals who care for them by infusing the hospital environment with the healing power of music. MusicRx features state-of-the-art mobile carts loaded with specialized instruments for all ages, interactive technology, iPods, iPads, karaoke, and recording equipment. CCA’s music specialists and trained volunteers provide tailored music medicine experiences to kids, based on their requests and how they are feeling at that very moment, in the Portland, Oregon area and in Los Angeles, CA. CCA’s award-winning Chemo Pal® Mentor Program gives kids and teens a trusted adult friend to look forward to during treatments and someone in their corner when they need it most. Having introduced Chemo Pals to nearly 1,000 kids and teens in the Portland area alone, CCA knows the powerful impact that mentoring can have on a child’s quality of life. CCA’s Link program is a community network of caring people and organizations in Oregon and Southwest Washington uniting local families with non-occurring essential needs and connections to local and national resources. CCA’s Link program also helps local families by saying “yes” to a child’s wish when their eligibility falls outside the parameters of other organizations. The Alexandra Ellis Caring Cabin™ provides local, eligible children facing cancer and terminal illnesses and their families with an extraordinary place to retreat, relax, and create once-in-a-lifetime memories. Located on 24 private acres along the Oregon coast, this spectacular setting features a beautiful sand beach, massive campfire, and serene lake for kayaking. The Alexandra Ellis Family Resource Center, operated in partnership with Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel in Portland, OR, provides free, 24/7 access for families and patients, specialized health information, books to loan, and resource directories. Through the Center’s computer bank, families stay connected to friends, work and the outside world during their child’s hospital stay. Hope for the Holidays delivers compassion and joy during the holiday season to families recommended by hospital social workers who are emotionally and financially struggling to care for a child with a serious illness. This local community effort pairs Oregon and Southwest Washington families with sponsors who provide the family with gifts, essential needs, and the ability to take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy the holidays.
