Diocese of Sacramento Presents
Lifetime Achievement Award to the
Christian Brothers
The Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Sacramento
honored the Christian Brothers with a Lifetime Achievement Award for their “longstanding and impactful contributions” to Catholic education in Sacramento. It was one of two inaugural awards recognizing the work of groups and individuals who have profoundly impacted Catholic schools in the area. The individual award was presented to Msgr. Edward Kavanagh of St. Rose Parish/St. Patrick SUCCEED Academy School.
“We were honored to receive the Diocese of Sacramento
Catholic Foundation inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award,” says Br. Donald Johanson, FSC, Brother Visitor of the District of San Francisco. “Bishop Soto was very kind in his tribute and we are grateful to the generations of families who entrusted us with the sacred responsibility of educating their sons and daughters. As we begin our 137th year of service to the young people of the Diocese of Sacramento, I am profoundly grateful to the many Brothers and Lay Partners who so tirelessly gave of themselves, and continue to give, to ensure that Christian Brothers High School remains a warm, vibrant and thriving school community.”
“The vocation of the Christian Brothers is teaching. As such,
they have been extraordinary teachers in sharing their mission, vision and values,” says CB President, Lorcan Barnes. “Throughout my career, I have been blessed to work with a number of religious orders. None have been as intentional or as forward-thinking about sharing their charism and mission as the De La Salle Christian Brothers. Their willingness to so generously impart the Founder’s mission allows Catholic, Lasallian education to thrive with faith and zeal, not just in Sacramento, but, worldwide. Sacramento would be a very different place had the Brothers not blessed this community with Catholic, Lasallian education. On behalf of our faculty, staff and generations of proud alumni, we thank them for their many years of service and congratulate them on receiving this muchdeserved award.” Riverview Media Photography
