anniversary party & fireworks The Anniversary Party registration asks “Do you plan to attend the Friday event?” – what does this mean? This year we are adding a kick-off party to jump start the weekend! The Friday, June 22 event will be an open campus style function with activities, food and beverages available at Tennis, Golf and on the Lower Patio. All Members are welcome to attend and participate in the fun. Check out some of the highlights below: Music by Dave Phenicie on the Lower Patio Golf Short Game Clinic Professional Tennis Clinic on the Courts Not to mention complimentary draft beer, canned nonalcoholic beverages and food stations! Be sure to say yes or no when registering so we can count you in on the fun! *Please note that due to this event the Clubhouse will be closed for dinner and carryout; the pool will operate on its normal schedule and is not included as part of the weekend activities. » WHAT IS IT? The Anniversary Party is the annual celebration of the Club’s Anniversary (which is officially July 3rd). It is the biggest Club event of the year, as we have over 1300 Members and their Guests in attendance. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and consists of kid’s entertainment, a DJ, plenty of food & drink and, of course, fireworks! » HOW DO I REGISTER? Advance registration is required, so visit the Club Calendar on the website to sign up your family and any guests you may want to bring. Please register on Saturday, June 23. Due to the size of the event, and the significant advance planning required, reservations cancelled with a 48-hour period will be charged 50% per person. Day-of cancellations and no-show reservations will be charged 100%. » WHAT IS INCLUDED? You may be wondering what is included in the cost of admission – all food and non-alcoholic beverages along with the entertainment. We also include draft beer from the beer truck next to the tent. Any other alcoholic

beverages are by signature. Outside beverages and coolers are not permitted to be brought in. This is one of the few events throughout the year the does not count towards your quarterly food minimum, as the majority of the cost of this event goes towards fireworks and entertainment, not food. » DO WE HAVE TO CHECK-IN? Each Member is given a wristband to attend the event, and it must be worn throughout the entire evening. Due to the size of the event, we offer early check-in for those that are able to stop by the Club and pick up their wristbands before the night of the party. If you cannot pick up your wristband at one of these times, you may check-in at one of the registration tables located at both entrances to the Lower Patio. » WHERE DO WE SIT? Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs and set them up on the grassy area behind the Clubhouse at any point on Saturday, June 23. Many tables are also available for dining on the back lawn or the Lower Patio and under the tent. We do ask that you don’t linger too long, as these are meant to be used as open seating for all in attendance to dine. » IS THERE A RAIN PLAN? Yes, in the case of inclement weather to the point where the event cannot go on, the party will be held the following day, Sunday, June 24. We will notify the Membership if that is the case. » SOMEONE IN MY FAMILY HAS AN ALLERGY – WHAT CAN THEY EAT? We label all food items with allergy information, so you can tell what has specific items. If you have a special request or would like more information, please contact Jennifer Turowski, Director of Operations, and she can assist. » IS THERE WHEELCHAIR ACCESS? There is an elevator within the Clubhouse itself, and plenty of seating on the Lower Patio to accommodate those in a wheelchair. We also provide indoor, air conditioned seating for those that would benefit from it.

THE LONDON MULE The Gin Gin Mule, also known as a London Mule, is a variation on the Moscow Mule that I much prefer. The flavors of gin blend well with that of the ginger beer, making it much more pleasing to taste, and much more complex than a Moscow Mule. INGREDIENTS · · · ·

2 oz of London Dry Gin 3/4 oz Lime Juice Ginger Beer 4 or 5 Mint Leaves

DIRECTIONS 1. Combine the juice and mint in a copper mug or collins glass 2. Muddle the Mint 3. Fill the glass with ice and add the Gin 4. Stir until chilled 5. Top it off with the Ginger Beer 6. Garnish with a lime and mint leaf

BUNKER to BUNKER

The Golf Professional staff is ready to have Mother Nature start cooperating with our Club’s golfing plans! With a few good days we experienced in the start of Spring, we were able to commence the 2018 golf tournament season. The Club hosted an exciting Masters Par 3 tournament and a fabulous Men’s Opening Day. There was a great turnout for both events and thank you to everyone that participated. With the Club calendar turning to July, and tournament season in full force, I would like to take some time to detail the golf portion of the website and the tournament sign up process. Cattail Creek has very extensive website that allows the membership to access all types of information about the Club, and it is a great way to stay update with all the Club’s news and information. The website www.cattailcreekcc. com contains seven main drop-down categories for which you can find all information. Those categories include Golf, Tennis/Pickleball, Fitness, Dinning, Swim and a My Club portion. In the golf portion, you will find all the information about the golf program and the events we plan to host for the year. This allows you to see the Club’s general policies, rules of play, current golf fees, guest rules and dress code. Along with all this information, you can also make tee times reservations and sign up for club tournaments. You can access and sign up for the tournaments in two different portions of the website. The first and most effective way is to click on “My Club” portion of the main page, and then click on club calendar.

CAT TALES 2018

12

This will show you all the Club events and you can then also filter the calendar for just “Golf Only”, so you can view just the golf events. Once the calendar appears, you can then click on any event and it will then prompt you to the sign-up page.

Another way of accessing and signing up for tournaments can be found in the golf drop down portion of the website. Once in the golf portion you can scroll down to the “Golf Event Registration & Results,” and you will find the events in a list view by date. If you click on any event it will then prompt you to the sign-up page.

The Golf Professional Staff and the Communications department will also be sending out emails about upcoming events with hyperlinks to make sign ups more efficient. Please be sure to be on the look out for these emails, because this is the Golf Departments main form of communication to the membership. Lastly, if you ever have any questions or need a tutorial on how to sign up for events please feel free to stop by the golf shop and anyone on the Professional Staff would love to assist you. Thank you and we all look forward to a fun and exciting 2018 golf season! Best Regards, Daniel Bengtson, PGA Head Golf Professional

A

s you may know, Cattail Creek is proud to have its first ever full-length Pickleball Court! I

of Pickleball, the USAPA.

• The second server continues serving until his team commits a fault and loses the serve to the opposing

BASIC RULES OVERVIEW • Pickleball is played either as doubles (a players per team) or singles; doubles is most common • The same size playing area and rules are used for both singles and doubles

team. • Once the service goes to the opposition (at side out), the first serve is from the right/even court and both players on that team have the opportunity to serve and score points until their team commits two faults. • In singles the server serves from the right/even court

when the score is odd.

• Paddle contact with the ball must be below the server’s waist (navel level). • The serve is initiated with at least one foot behind the baseline; neither foot may contact the baseline or court until after the ball is struck. • The serve is made diagonally crosscourt and must land

c the confines of the opposite diagonal court. within

• Only one serve attempt is allowed, except in the event of a let (the ball touches the net on the serve and lands on the proper service court; let serves are replayed). SERVICE SEQUENCE • Both players on the serving doubles team have the opportunity to serve and score points until they commit a fault *(except for the first service sequence of each new game). • The first serve of each side-out is made from the right/ even court. • If a point is scored, the server switches sides and the server initiates the next serve from the left/odd court. • As subsequent points are scored, the server continues switching back and forth until a fault is committed and

CAT TALES 2018

14

*At the beginning of each new game only one partner on the serving team has the opportunity to serve before faulting, after which the service passes to the receiving team. SCORING • Points are scored only by the serving team. • Games are normally played to 11 points, win by 2. • Tournament games may be to 15 or 21, win by 2. • When the serving team’s score is even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) the player who was the first server in the game for that team will be in the right/even court when serving or receiving; when odd (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) that player will be in the left/odd court when serving or receiving. TWO-BOUNCE RULE • When the ball is served, the receiving team must let it bounce before returning, and then the serving team must let it bounce before returning, thus two bounces. • After the ball has bounced once in each team’s court, both teams may either volley the ball (hit the ball

before it bounces) or play it off a bounce (ground stroke). The two-bounce rule eliminates the serve and volley advantage and extends rallies. NON-VOLLEY ZONE • The non-volley zone is the court area within 7 feet on both sides of the net. • Volleying is prohibited within the non-volley zone. This rule prevents players from executing smashes from a position within the zone. • It is a fault if, when volleying a ball, the player steps on the non-volley zone, including the line and/or when the player’s momentum causes them or anything they are wearing or carrying to touch the non-volley zone including the associated lines. • It is a fault if, after volleying, a player is carried by momentum into or touches the non-volley zone, even if the volleyed ball is declared dead before this happens. • A player may legally be in the non-volley zone any time other than when volleying a ball. • The non-volley zone is commonly referred to as “the kitchen.” LINE CALLS • A ball contacting any line, except the non-volley zone line on a serve, is considered “in.” • A serve contacting the non-volley zone line is short and a fault. FAULTS • A fault is any action that stops play because of a rule violation. • A fault by the receiving team results in a point for the serving team. • A fault by the serving team results in the server’s loss of serve or side out.
