“Waiting For A Fledgling”
W
by Jim Fickley
e’ve a bluebird house in our back yard
I never saw him gather twigs
And I have come to see
But stayed near the back yard
A faithfulness, and diligence,
Mrs. Bluebird did the work
Which showed their best to me
And she would seldom stop
I have watched the female bluebird
But He’d fly up and look inside
Gather twigs to make her nest
Or sit upon the top
And wondered where she leaned her skill
I guess her building’s now complete
To do what seems her best
For both have settled down
Her building talent wasn’t taught
For now, she has no cause to roam
But God gave her the skill
She spends more time at home.
And I’m amazed the way she’s worked
Perhaps in time they’ll fly away
And watching is a thrill.
But soon they’ll both return
One time she brought a stick too long
Their faithfulness, and diligence,
To fit into the door
Are duties I must learn.
But she struggled, and succeeded, The male bluebird was always near He seemed to be on guard
