Well Seasoned

This morning as I was washing the bread pan, the activity brought back memories. It is amazing how you think about things when standing in front of the kitchen window washing dishes. I love looking outside, and I am thankful even though I do not have a dishwasher—although I really do have one, me! The bread pan that I was washing was my Mother-in-Law’s. To say that the pan is well seasoned is an understatement. I cannot even imagine how many biscuits she had rolled out by hand and then placed on that pan. The smell of them, at any time of the day, coming from the oven, made one’s mouth water. Then, to be able to get that hot biscuit buttered, that was a real treat!

I am thankful to have been blessed with such wonderful cooks in my life. My mom also cooked biscuits when we were children growing up. Her pan of biscuits was unique in that she always made three baby biscuits. Just three small biscuits that we three children knew were made especially for us. To look back on that now, I can see how blessed we were. We could get up on a school morning smelling the breakfast aroma, knowing Mom was busy cooking those biscuits and Dad was cooking the eggs and meat. A good breakfast that got us started on that school day and every day. We always sat down as a family at the table and took time to give God thanks for the food we were fixing to eat. Such a great foundation was being laid in our home to help us in our future.

As families, we start our traditions, and that is what makes each home unique. Whatever our traditions, I pray that we never forget to love each other, forgive each other, and thank God for His many blessing upon us. I thank God for the gift of family and hope and pray that you will too. Psalm 34:8, “O Taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.”
