Father, I thank you today…Max stop barking…Lord, thank you…what was I supposed to do today? Oh, thank you Lord…good grief that cat is so annoying…oh, that’s my phone…Lord, I got to get this because it might be the baby coming…where were we? Thank you, Lord, for loving me and my crazy self? I know you understand me because you created me, but I am thankful that you haven’t given up on me yet!

Does anyone else have trouble concentrating or trying to find quiet time for your Bible study and prayer time?

According to Statista and DigitalMarketing.com, the average person spends 145 minutes per day on social media. People 16-29 spend 3 hours per day on social networking platforms. People swipe, type, click, or tap their phone a whopping 2,617 times per day, but for the heavy user, over 5,500 times. There are 5.22 billion people worldwide using a mobile device, and 4.66 billion internet users, according to their data. That in itself is not really an issue. The Bible app reports it is on over 350 million devices around the world. So, what is the issue then?

Theophrastus, an ancient Greek philosopher, once said, “Time is the most valuable thing a man can spend.” You will never have more time. Even the unbeliever will agree with this. You can’t go back, only forward. For the believer, our goal is to always head towards the mark which Christ has set for us. Delving into that scripture, you begin to realize that God created us for a purpose. He knows everything about us and has set our course. Yet, He has also given us free will so that we may choose to seek Him. Now, given that we have a purpose and our days are numbered, how should we be looking at the minutes in our day? Proverbs 4:5, “Get wisdom, develop good judgment. Don’t forget my words or turn away from them.” 2 Timothy 4:5, “But you should keep a clear mind in every situation.” Why? He goes on to say that we are to be telling others about the Good News! Jeremiah 6:10, “To whom can I give warning?” Are you listening to the right source? There are two sayings that are contradictory: “Out with the old and in with the new” and “What’s old becomes new.” Either way, the important thing is to be concerned with what you are putting in your mind. The human brain has a natural, intrinsic capacity to learn. The brain is a supercomputer. Like a supercomputer though, what you put in the memory card will drive the brain. To achieve higher levels, you must develop higher skills like a video game, right? Thus, what you are spending your time on is filling your data, and guess what comes out by way of your actions and speech? Exactly—what you are putting in.

Making sense of it all…use your time wisely! Guard your heart and mind so that they may not sin against God. Hang on, I’m getting a text from God!
