Troublesome Waves

by Shane Franks

In times of difficulty it’s very apparent how easily one can quickly forget core truths of faith and default to fear and quick thoughtless reactions that are based more on primal instinct of self preservation.

I’m reminded of a hand full of disciples (in probably a group of ten or less) In a boat on the Sea of Galilee. They we’re distraught and in fear for their lives. This storm should have not been a great

surprise to them since the Sea of Galilee is and was well known for quickly changing weather from sudden peace to sudden turmoil and destruction. After all, a good number of these men were experienced sailers and fishermen.

But as often as it seems to occur these experienced men got caught in the moment and the memories of all the miracles were quickly forgotten and those memories were not enough to fuel their faith in time of adversity. The devil knew well that Christ had

chosen these men for a task and He saw great value and potential in all of them ( yes even Judas). But the devil would love to destroy all potential endeavors for the kingdom and the men in this tiny boat felt that real as ever. Snoring from the back of the boat was a very unworried Jesus! Apparently Christ was a sound sleeper! The men finally after all else had failed began to cry out to their Lord who responded with, “where is your faith?” Our faith?? Our Faith fell overboard 30 knots back towards Capernaum half an hour ago! But Christ arose as the rain beat across his face and made his way to the front of the boat. Unconcerned with the boats unbalanced nature calmly yet sternly spoke into the air the same very breath that spoke the world into existence and simply said...“Peace be still!”... and there was peace!

Dear brother and sister do not be over encumbered by fear but live by faith because his breath lives inside you. Simply take your place at the end of the boat and speak to your storm! Cast your cares upon Him for he careth for you! Peace be with you!
