Sitting At His Feet

by Courtney Moats W ith some of the new year under our belts so soon, I am finding more resolutions and lifestyle changes I desire to make than our best self for our children, our husbands, and our friends and family? In order for me to serve the ones I love well, I have to spend that time sitting: sitting

what I originally thought. I began this year with my resolution to serve more: to give more of myself and serve well as a new mom, wife, and youth pastor’s spouse. As I think and pray on how I can better give myself to and serve my loved ones around me, I think of Mary, sitting at the feet of Jesus. I am finding that when I don’t take time to sit at His feet before I begin my day full of what others need from me, I can become overwhelmed with the many roles I’m playing. If I don’t say that prayer while I sip my morning coffee, spend time in worship on my long drive to work, and take a deep breath when the day gets heavy, I find myself getting wrapped up and overwhelmed in being and giving of myself.

Does this sound like Martha? As she was preparing to serve Jesus in her home, she wanted to do well and be her best self for Him. Don’t we all want to be

and basking in who He is in order for me to be who my loved ones need me to be. In this time, He fulfills me so that I can fulfill my many roles. My prayer for us women in 2020 is that we would take that deep

breath, take off all other roles for a moment, and just wear the role of daughter—daughter to a Father who will energize you, prepare you, and equip you for all of your roles and all of where you are needed, just by sitting at His feet.
