FOR ENGLAND AND WALES At the request of His Eminence Vincent G. Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, President of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, made in a letter dated 22 April 2016, in virtue of the faculties granted to this Congregation by the Supreme Pontiff Francis, we are delighted to confirm the publication of excerpts of the text of the English-language Roman Missal, as it stands in the attached copy. In the printed edition, this decree, by which the Apostolic See has granted the requested recognitio, must be inserted in its entirety. Furthermore, three copies of the same printed text should be forwarded to this Congregation. Anything to the contrary notwithstanding. From the offices of the Congregation of Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, on the 27 November 2016, on the First Sunday of Advent.

DECREE OF PUBLICATION In accord with the norms established by decree of the Sacred Congregation of Rites in Cum, nostra aetate (27 January 1966) and of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments in Liturgiam authenticam (28 March 2001), the third edition of the Roman Missal is declared to be the vernacular typical edition of the Missale Romanum, editio typica tertia, and is published by authority of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. The Excerpts from The Roman Missal was canonically approved for use by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales on 20 April 2015, and was subsequently confirmed by the Apostolic See by decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on 27 November 2016 (Prot. n. 225/16/L). The Excerpts from The Roman Missal may be used in the dioceses of the England and Wales from the date of publication. At the Vigil Mass This Mass is used on the evening of 24 December, either before or after First Vespers (Evening Prayer I) of the Nativity.
