At Confession 1. Begin by saying: “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned.” 2. Give the priest some idea of how long it is since your last confession. (You may want to tell him something about yourself, if it would help). Then tell him your sins, simply, clearly, and honestly. When you finish say: “I am sorry for these, and all my sins”.
After Confession
I
mmediately after confession, find a quiet moment to pray the prayers of penance the priest will have given you. Reflect also on any advice he has given you, things he may have suggested you to do. Above all rejoice in the mercy and love of God for you:
Father, in your love you have brought me from evil to good and from misery to happiness. Through your blessings give me the courage of perseverance. Amen.
5. He may add: “May the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ, the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and of all the Saints, whatever good you do and suffering you endure, heal your sins, help you to grow in holiness, and reward you with everlasting life.” R. Amen.

Making a good confession 1. Pray first, asking for God’s help. 2. Make a sincere examination of conscience to see how you have sinned since your last confession. 3. Confess your sins simply, with humility and honesty. 4. Make an act of contrition with heartfelt sorrow and a “firm purpose of amendment”, being determined to avoid the occasions of sin. 5. Devoutly carry out the penance prescribed and pray in thanksgiving for God’s love.

3. The priest may give you some advice. He will give you the Penance (to be said later); then he will ask you to recite an Act of Contrition: “O my God, because you are so good, I am very sorry that I have sinned against you, and by the help of your grace I will not sin again”. 4. Listen as he gives you the Absolution: “God the Father of mercies, through the death and resurrection of his Son has reconciled the world to himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins; through the ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace, and I absolve you from your sins, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, ✙ and of the Holy Spirit.” R. Amen.
