This year’s Garage Sale will take place the second weekend in October — 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8 to Saturday, Oct. 10 — coinciding with the Chandler Cherokee Pow Wow Arts and Crafts Show.

The Garage Sale is one of the St. Boniface Altar Society’s major fundraisers. Organizer Tracy De La Garza says that many years ago, St. Boniface had a food booth during the Pow Wow, but they decided to switch to having a sale. All items are donated by community members, and none of the items are priced — it is all a free-will donation.

“All items, in good shape, are accepted for the Garage Sale,” Tracy says. “We invite everyone to come shop. Shoppers can expect to buy almost anything you can imagine, from furniture, to tools, to clothes and housewares.”

This event benefits the Altar Society, which ensures that all the needs for the Mass are accounted for — from cleaning and preparing the altar, to making sure the wine and hosts are ready for Mass. The group also donates some of the raised funds to Catholic Charities and other organizations in need.

Tracy, a proud member of the Altar Society for 18 years, is thankful to all those who volunteer and make the Garage Sale a success.

“Being part of the Altar Society of St. Boniface Parish has always been a blessing for me,” Tracy says. “The feeling of serving those in need has such a tremendous effect on my life personally.”
