Why do you share your blessings with Catholic Charities? “We have been blessed with successful businesses that allow us to share and we have always felt that Catholic Charities is the best way to have our donations reach those in need in an organized fashion. “There are many who try to take advantage of charity and we trust that Catholic Charities can filter through the need and find those who truly require assistance.” - Randy & Alice Simon

Catholic Charities’ Pittsburg office has moved occupying a tiny office space at A fter Wesley House for several years, and

spending much of 2020 in temporary offices because of the coronavirus, Catholic Charities is now settled into a new home in downtown Pittsburg. Staff moved into a 5,000 square foot space in the lower level of the BMO Harris Bank on Broadway in early November. The expanded space allows Catholic Charities to consolidate all of the ministries available in southeast Kansas into one space in the heart of downtown Pittsburg. The space now houses Southeast Kansas Services (SEK), SAFE Project and Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF). The new office also has a dedicated space which will allow Cana Counseling to offer telemedicine sessions in the future. “Through grants and partnerships, we have been able to greatly increase our capacity to serve more clients throughout southeast Kansas,” says Casey Brown, program director. “Catholic Charities has become a standard in housing and homeless services throughout the region.”

Together, the ministries can provide emergency assistance to those who need one-time help to remain in their current housing; prevention programs for those who are on the verge of homelessness due to being significantly behind on utilities or rent payments; and assistance with housing for those who are legitimately homeless.

The programs collaborate while serving different populations. SAFE Project is specific for low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who have a minor child, while SSVF serves homeless veterans of all ages and their families. SEK helps everyone else.
