Passive strategies: Heating | cooling | lighting
The PRIMARY space is completely underground while the lodgings are partially submerged into the earth, utilizing backfill for thermal mass. The building’s orientation and apertures allow for day-lighting while simultaneously funneling the prevailing winds through the main circulation space.

Glazing on each unit is located on the north façade for day-lighting and view-sheds. The lower portion of the glazing is operable. Winch-operated roof panels work in unison with the glazing for passive cooling.
