ASSOCIATE AD OF BUSINESS / INTERNAL OPERATIONS
Larry Arbaugh joined the athletic staff as Associate Athletic Director for Business Development and Media Relations in August, 2011. Reporting under this office were corporate sponsorships, marketing, ticketing and media relations. In 2013, he assumed his current role of Associate Athletics Director for Administration where he works very closely with the WCU Director of Athletics, Randy Eaton, as a member of WCU's Senior Staff. Additionally, Arbaugh is the direct sport supervisor for the Catamount volleyball and men’s golf programs. Prior to joining the WCU athletic staff in 2004 Larry founded VisionMOS International Inc. an engineering consulting firm in Mesa, Arizona. Prior to VisionMOS, Arbaugh worked for Motorola from 1981 to 2003 in Chandler, Ariz. Arbaugh received a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina University in 1979, and a Masters from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1981. Arbaugh is married to the former Mary Brand, WCU ‘79 and they have one daughter, Caroline, who graduated from law school at the University of Georgia. Larry and Mary have been members of the Catamount Club since 1980.
Rick Fulton started at Western Carolina University as the business officer for Catamount athletics in December 2009 before being promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations in the summer of 2014. In 2017, additional duties accompanied elevation of his title to Associate Athletic Director of Business / Internal Operations. Overall duties include all business operations for athletics dealing with travel, budgets, purchasing, as well as liaison to the controller’s office. He works closely with all coaches and staff in maintaining daily oversight of the department. With his promotion, Fulton also oversees facilities and operations, and is a member of WCU’s Senior Staff. His career began after his junior year in college when he was drafted and played professional baseball in the Detroit Tigers organization. Injury lead him to WCU where he graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor’s degree in education. From there, he became a teacher and coach at Tuscola High in Waynesville, N.C., as head baseball and assistant football and basketball coach. Two years later, he embarked on a career in banking spanning that spanned 20-plus years culminating as Vice President for SunTrust Bank in Sylva. During that time frame, Fulton worked with several banks and credit unions as well as work in the financial services division of EDS covering a three-state territory and two hundred plus clients. Rick and wife Jana moved back to the Sylva area as owners of Meriweather’s Restaurant in the early 1990s when they became involved again with WCU as a supporter and fan for the athletic program.
