IXON is a real human adventure, and we are proud to take stock of the progress made. We started out 25 years ago in France with a blank sheet of paper. Today, we are a worldwide brand distributed in over 70 countries, as well as an international group, including 7 companies and 500 co-workers. It is very simple: what we learn in the heat of racing, we try to reflect in our product ranges! On the racing scene, 2021 was notably marked by the incredible World Championship victory of our rider Remy Gardner in Moto2. This win in an intermediary category, just a few years after our rider Brad Binder's victory in the Moto3 category in 2016, shows our real commitment to Grand Prix racing. In this MotoGP championship, representing the summit of motorcycle racing, our brand is recognised for its added value and its increasingly significant impact. For the 2022 Grand Prix season, we have 5 riders in the MotoGP category and will be supplying teamwear to 5 MotoGP teams. A new range of products linked to the world of competition will be available, with tie-in merchandising on offer from several different teams and riders through our official licences. The new range, a logical follow-up on our investment in Grand Prix racing, is a chance for all our customers and racing fans to access replica products worn by the teams and riders. This new range will feature in a product catalogue that is more and more complete. Since our brand was set up, we have been grateful for the positive feedback and enthusiasm around our collections. We have put all our passion and skill into each range in the IXON catalogue, so that every rider can find the equipment they need, whatever their style, body shape and budget. Our Mâcon HQ is home to the IX-LAB and SOS REPAIR SERVICE, two workshops specialising in making, updating and repairing leather suits.

IX-LAB

SOS REPAIR SERVICE

The IX-LAB is our innovation and production laboratory at the French IXON HQ in Mâcon: this is where we make all our bespoke suits for our professional riders. It's precise and highly technical work. The suits are tailored to each racer's body shape as well as their personal preferences and requirements over the course of the racing calendar. That means every suit the IX-LAB teams make is made on request as a one-off: each suit is a unique piece.

As well as the IX-LAB for professional riders, the SOS REPAIR SERVICE is our second workshop based at IXON's head office in France. It provides support to any leather race suit owner, whether they're professionals or amateurs and no matter the suit brand.

The IX-LAB uses its expertise, organisation and versatility to keep the suits up to date: modifications, adjustments and repairs are provided throughout the season with very short turnarounds to give riders the best possible service. As well as producing bespoke suits, the IX-LAB also works as a design office for IXON's R&D department to takes care of research and tests in both leather and fabric. The IX-LAB collaborates with both the R&D department based in Italy, focusing on innovations in racing, and the R&D department based at IXON's HQ in France, in charge of innovations for the collections.

IMPERMEABILITY AND BREATHABILITY TECHNOLOGY DESIGNED FOR COMFORT

Impermeability is the capacity of a fabric to resist water pressure. Breathability is the capacity of a fabric to eliminate water vapour, especially the rider's sweat (due to heat or stress in particular). When you ride a motorbike, water from outside (rain or spray, for example) and the rider's sweat are problems because feeling wet is soon uncomfortable. IXON equipment is both impermeable and breathable: it can protect you from water, while eliminating sweat to maintain riding comfort. The impermeability and breathability of a fabric can be measured. We use the Schmerber water column test to measure impermeability performance and the MVTR index to test breathability.

IMPERMEABILITY PERFORMANCE: SCHMERBER WATER COLUMN TEST The Schmerber water column test shows a fabric's level of impermeability, expressed in Schmerbers (named after Charles-Edouard Schmerber, the creator of the test). During the test, the clothing fabric undergoes pressure from a water column. One millimetre of a water column is equal to 1 Schmerber and 0.1 mbar of pressure. The test ends when the water starts to penetrate the garment. We can then measure the water pressure the garment was able to withstand. The number of millimetres in the water column is given in Schmerbers (ISO norm). It shows the impermeability performance of the fabric. The higher the number, the more impermeable the fabric is. Because of the pressure on motorcycling equipment resulting from wind or speed during a ride, motorcycling equipment must achieve specific levels of performance which greatly differ from the standards for everyday clothing. The ISO norm states that a fabric is waterproof from 1300 mm / 1300 Schmerber. To give you an idea, rain rarely goes over the equivalent of 2000 Schmerber. But for a motorbike riding in the rain at 130 km/h, the pressure from the water on clothes can reach about 8000 Schmerber.

BREATHABILITY PERFORMANCE: THE MVTR INDEX The MVTR index tests a fabric's breathability rate. MVTR stands for "Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate". It measures the quantity of water vapour in grams that a square metre of material lets through in 24 hours. The result is given as g/m²/24 hours and shows the fabric's breathability performance: the higher the result, the more breathable the fabric.

XDRY: HIGH-PERFORMANCE MEMBRANE DEVELOPED BY IXON For the most demanding users of motorcycling equipment, we have developed a high-performance membrane which is both waterproof over time and highly breathable: XDRY. Our XDRY membrane, with its high technical standards, contains microscopic pores that cannot be seen by the naked eye. They are small enough to prevent rain from getting through but big enough to eliminate sweat. The XDRY membrane is an IXON product in fixed or removeable versions.

THE EN 17092 NORM FOR MOTORCYCLE CLOTHING EN 17092 is the latest certification standard for motorcycling clothes. It is used to certify all motorcycling clothing, whether it is designed for professional or leisure use. Standard EN 17092 consists of 5 certification classes, corresponding to 5 levels of tests, with specific levels of protection for 3 zones at risk.

The 5 certification classes adapted to the different types of motorcycling are AAA, AA, A, B and C: • Class AAA/AA/A clothing = protection against abrasion, impacts, ripping, tearing at the seams + guaranteed safety and ergonomics. • Class B clothing = protection equivalent to class A clothing, with the exception of impact absorption, since class B products do not include protection against impacts. • Class C clothes = specialised clothes designed only to keep one or more protections against impacts in place, either for outer clothing (the letters "C/O" meaning "C over") or for underclothing (the letters "C/U" meaning "C under").

THE 3 RISK ZONES The 3 risk zones correspond to different levels of risk of injury, depending on the parts of the body impacted after a fall: Zone 1: highest level risk of injury Zone 2: moderate risk of injury Zone 3: lowest risk of injury

THE DIFFERENT NORMS FOR MOTORCYCLING EQUIPMENT Motorcycling equipment manufacturers follow the CE certification through the norms drawn up by the European Committee for Standardisation (ECS). The norms are listed with numbers and the letters "EN" (European Norm) before the number. There are different norms for the various categories of products in the IXON range: • Clothes: EN 17092 • Gloves: EN 13594 • Shoes: EN 13634 • Protections: EN 1621-1 (shoulder, elbow and knee protection), EN 1621-2 (back protection)

IMPERMEABILITY AND BREATHABILITY: As a reminder (see page 8-9 for more details), impermeability is the capacity of a fabric to resist water penetration, and breathability is the capacity of a fabric to eliminate water vapour and the rider's sweat. Impermeability performance is measured by the Schmerber water column test, with 1 mm of water column equal to 1 Schmerber. Breathability performance is measured by the MVTR index (Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate).

At IXON we have 2 ranges of rain equipment: the Road Series range features equipment providing top-level performance in bad weather, while the Compact Series corresponds to practical, light and compressible products.
