O

by Cassidy Lang

n Saturday, March 12 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fempower Media will be hosting a day-long convention at the famous Javits Center in New York, New York. The convention will provide us with an opportunity to really see what our #Fempower campaign has inspired and bring some of our most passionate Fempower Media contributors together. Our ultimate goal is to spread awareness, foster growth, empower women and ultimately have a good time with all of our fabulous supporters. The first annual Fe m p owe r M e d i a Convention will feature panels, comedy shows, special performances, networking opportunities, and plenty of time to eat good food. This year, our convention will be hosted by our favorite feminist celebrity BFFs, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. As authors, comedians, producers, directors, actors and straight up powerful women, they have so much to give to our event. They also happen to be some of our biggest supporters,

so we are so grateful to have them participate in such a big way. Tickets for the convention are available for purchase now until Tuesday, March 1. To secure your place at the convention, we suggest purchasing your ticket as soon as possible. As we are a foundation primarily powered by media professionals and celebrity sponsors, we only have a limited amount of space to offer the public. Specific ticketing packages range in price from $50 - $125. A $50 bronze pass will secure a seat for you at all of the panels and at our networking lunch and gift you with a # Fe m p o w e r button. A $75 silver pass will get you into the panels and lunch, while also gifting you with a #Fempower Convention T-Shirt and the opportunity to laugh along with our celebrity comedian lineup. And finally, a $125 gold VIP pass will give you all of the perks of the Bronze pass but will include a 5-star dining experience to finish and a meet and greet with either Tina Fey or Amy Poehler.

For more information about panels and specific ticket packages, visit fempowermedia.com/events.

LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER Hello! If you are reading this, you are most likely a part of the #Fempower movement. For that, I want to say how happy I am that you are taking the time to celebrate your individual strength as well as the strength of women all around the world. These past few months have been especially crazy at Fempower Media. Between planning our first convention, making new celebrity friends, releasing #Fempower swag and simply trying to keep up with the overwhelming support, we have definitely been busy. But we are kept sane and powerful because of all of you. We are so excited to see that what we’ve all been doing has had an impact on the world. Thank you so much for being a part of it. I can’t wait to share what we have planned with you, especially with our upcoming convention. Honestly, I am about to burst as I write this. If all goes as planned, this event will be the first annual Fempower Media convention. The future is bright for Fempower Media. xoxo, Cass Lang, Founder of Fempower Media

Zendaya Coleman 2

Written by Zendaya Coleman Today I saw an image of myself on the cover of a magazine. This is not a new thing. As a professional in the entertainment industry, I am booked for photoshoots all of the time. But this was the first time I felt physically uncomfortable with the outcome. Don’t get me wrong, I looked good in the photo. Honestly, my first thought was that I looked good. But then I looked again. My skin was glowing, my hair was vibrant, and my thighs were... thinner. My 19 year old body was photoshopped to be thinner. Someone working at this magazine had thought that I would look better on the cover if only my hips and torso were slightly manipulated. I do not

agree. Which is why I have decided to speak about this now. I know that I am attractive and I know that it is one of the many reasons I have been successful in this industry. I know how this works. But the thought that any woman that sees this altered photo will be seeing a fake representation of me, an “ideal” representation of my body, makes me sick. The idea of the perfection is why our society is made up of women who are self conscious. This is why so many women are struggling to accept themselves. Anyone who knows who I am, knows that I stand for honest and pure self love. So, here I am. Standing up for the REAL me. Screw Photoshop. #FEMPOWER

SOCIAL MEDIA SPOTLIGHT Cumulated by the #Fempower Family Since we started on this journey in fall of 2013, we have always been passionate about using social media to its greatest potential. It has since proven to be a strong asset to this organization. Aside from the internet trolls and people who remain ignorant, the feedback towards our #Fempower campaign has been overwhelmingly positive. In honor of this postivity and support, we would like to take the time to spotlight some of our favorite tweets, posts and instas from over the past two years. From the bottom of our #Fempowered hearts, thank you all so much for supporting our mission whether it’s been IRL or on the web.

FEMPOWER MEDIA WHAT DO WE DO? »» SPREAD AWARENESS & EDUCATE »» CREATE SOCIAL MEDIA MOVEMENTS »» HOST EVENTS »» SHARE STORIES »» PARTNER WITH INFLUENCERS

OUR FEMPOWERED MISSION Fempower Media is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and altering the way women are presented by the media. The media, as a collective, is one of the strongest influences in our lives. This means that all forms of media – television, print, internet, radio, etc – hold the power to educate and change or alter how we perceive any given thing.Though the media is notorious for its sexist ideology and its warped images of women, we cannot ignore its power and the valuable opportunity it offers to bring about some much needed change. Fempower Media, established in the Fall of 2013, is fairly new to the nonprofit world, yet has garnered the support and attention of feminists across the nation. #Fempower activists and contributors are now made up of some of the biggest names in media including, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Zendaya Coleman and Zooey Deschanel. But, our entire movement would not be possible without all of our supporters. After all, we got started thanks to a college student’s dream to make a change in the field she was studying.
