A prescription for savings No one should be forced to choose between paying for food, rent or medicine because of the high cost of prescriptions. That’s why United Way of Cass County has partnered with FamilyWize to distribute free prescription discount cards. The FamilyWize card is easy to use, it’s free, and there are no age or income restrictions. It can be used immediately and there is no limit on how often you can use it. It’s accepted at 95% of pharmacies nationwide and no enrollment or personal information is needed. These cards can be used by everyone in the community, not just people without insurance. They can also be used by people with health benefits,

including Medicaid or Medicare. FamilyWize cards immediately lower the cost of medicine by an average of 35% or more for people without insurance or who take medications not covered by their plan. Customers save on the cost of their prescription medicine 80% of the time just by presenting the FamilyWize card at their local pharmacy. United Way of Cass County is one of over 1000 United Ways in all 50 states that have helped people save more than $420 million on prescriptions in their communities and distributed

more than 20 million cards nationwide. Together we hope to reduce the cost of medicine $1 billion by the end of 2015. FamilyWize cards can be found locally at the United Way of Cass County, Area Five Agency, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cass County, The Salvation Army, and Peak Community Services. People with internet access can print a card, look up drug prices, and obtain a list of participating pharmacies on United Way of Cass County’s website at www.unitedwayofcasscounty.org You can also like Family Wize on Facebook. Smart phone owners can text the word “family” to 700700 and get a free FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card sent to their cell phones. Simply show the text to your pharmacist so the discount can be applied to the cost of your medicine. PHOTO BY MICHELLE DIALS

Honoring Good Government He served as Mayor of Logansport and a member of the Logansport City Council, and each year for the last 19 years, Logansport High School English teacher John Davis has ensured that students have a chance to participate in the governing process during Key Club’s annual Good Government Day program. Davis is retiring at the end of the year and was honored with a plaque for his years as the Key Club faculty advisor on April 8. The annual program allows students to run for office and serve as Mayor, City Council and Clerk Treasurer for the day. The mayor appoints department heads and, following a swearingin ceremony in McHale, the student leaders job shadow their respective office holders. April 8, 2013 marked the 55th annual Good Government Day program.
