Girls Inc.: What is your most treasured professional experience? How can girls and young women seek meaningful experiences to shape their own futures? Gregg Renfrew: The thing I’ve treasured the most has been the opportunity to meet and spend time with the women and men who have chosen

discover their inherent strengths, and learn how they want to impact our world. To all girls – you have everything you need to be a great success. You don’t need others to validate you to be able to achieve the results that you want. Remember that those who are questioning you or challenging you are often the ones that help you forge the path to your own successful life.

GI: What has been your path of most resistance? What advice can you offer girls about perseverance and resilience? GR: Professionally, I have always gone against the grain and have always tried to bring ideas and businesses to market that had not yet been adopted by the consumer market. When you start things from scratch, you’re constantly having to convince everyone around you that your ideas are valid, and that there is a future that is not yet imaginable to most, but there is true possibility in your vision. There is no paved road ahead of me – I’m always trying to forge a new trail where I see a future that doesn’t yet exist. Whether it was the Wedding List or Beautycounter, I’ve always been doing things that people haven’t adopted yet, and it’s challenging in that way. You have to have the motto that failure is not an option and that you’re never going to give up. Your failures are part of your path towards success, so you need to stay the course and keep trying. Even in the darkest moments, that’s when you dig deep and hunker down. Consistency and conﬁdence are critical; if you believe in what you’re doing, you can achieve your goals. GI: How can more girls and young women ﬁnd their voices to advocate for causes they believe in and see themselves as changemakers? GR: Every choice you make matters. Activism should be part of your life every single day, every time you go to the store, every time you support an establishment – know that those choices you make are indicative of the values you hold. Every girl needs to remember that her voice matters and that the smallest choices can make a difference. As you think about how you spend your money, your time, where you go to school, where you work, who you choose as your life partner – all of these decisions add up to the person that you become. If you follow your
