Pitcher related to the gallery. “Sometimes you have to paddle hard to catch a wave, but there is also the ‘no paddle takeoff,’ and that is all about timing, not strength.” It’s been two years since Pitcher’s last breakout exhibition, Hank Pitcher: Primal, but it feels like it’s been both much shorter and much longer. 2020 seemed like the longest year anyone can remember, but it also carved a hole in our collective memory, leaving the sensation of one very, very long day in its place. For Hank, it was a good day to paint. Pitcher’s days amid the wild flora and fauna of Coastal California show up in lusciously colored, visionary landscapes that often include revelers at the continent’s edge. Most of the works were painted in 2020 and 2021, with a lone shipwreck beckoning us back to 2019 – when a deep ocean sailboat washed ashore near the artist’s studio at Coal Oil Point. Remaining attentive to the present has grounded Hank Pitcher’s painting practice for over 50 years, who related, “You have to steal the moment. This is all we have, and it is everything.” Pitcher has been exhibiting for over 50 years. He currently lectures at U.C.S.B.’s College of Creative Studies, where he has served since 1971. Early on, he befriended Paul Wonner and later Paul Georges on the East Hank Pitcher Coast, making him an unlikely bridge between two distinctive post-abstraction figurative styles. The second printing of his sold out monograph is on its way.

UN-KISSED SURFBOARDS AND SURFS UP SUNRISES define and illuminate the California dream which is embodied in the paintings of Hank Pitcher, now on display at Sullivan Goss. In at least his eleventh solo exhibit at the gallery, Pitcher focuses on the sense of “just now,” perhaps a feeling many of us have experienced as time warped during a year of quiet and isolation brought on by social distancing. Consisting of 17 new paintings by Pitcher, one of Santa Barbara’s most Studio View with Surfer and Platform iconic artists, as well as by Hank Pitcher a few “upon request” additional pieces that can be seen in the back room, Hank Pitcher: Just Now offers the riches of the artist’s recent efforts. “I learn over and over that it is about who we are as much as about where we are – about what we do with what we have,”

Downtown & Waterfront Shuttles to Remain Suspended

OLLOWING GREAT PUBLIC OUTCRY AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT, Santa Barbara’s Downtown and Waterfront shuttles have been, for the time-being, saved from termination. Suspended amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Santa Barbara MTD proposed the shuttles’ termination last month after the City of Santa Barbara’s announcement that it is no longer able to subsidize the service. Yet as of May 18th, the MTD Board of Directors unanimously voted to continue the shuttles’ suspension rather than terminate the service altogether. “The board definitely heard the public and understands the importance of this service that’s been around for 30 years now,” said Hillary Blackerby, MTD’s Planning and Marketing Manager. “I would say that if people are concerned about it and want to see it back in some form or another that they now engage with the City Council and the State Street master planning process to make it clear that they think it’s an important component of our downtown.” The Downtown and Waterfront Shuttles, running on lines 30 and 31 respectively, have served the community since the early 1990s. Charging only 50 cents per ride, the electric shuttles offer tourists and locals alike with accessible and efficient transportation to some of the area’s most popular attractions. Historically, the service’s low fare and general operations have been made possible through the City of Santa Barbara’s contributing approximately $1.2 million per year from its Public Works Department’s Downtown Parking fund. However, in May 2020, the City informed MTD that it would not be able to continue the subsidy due to insufficient funds. This lack of funding, combined with State Street’s ongoing closure to vehicular traffic, ultimately led MTD to propose the service’s termination this past April. Yet upon this announcement, dozens of Santa Barbara community members reached out to MTD to express their support for the Downtown and Waterfront shuttles. 112 people responded to MTD’s online survey on its proposed service changes, with the majority of responses supporting the shuttles’ maintenance. MTD also received a petition addressed to the Santa Barbara City Council as well as the MTD General Manager and Board of Directors, which was signed by 76 individuals and called for the immediate reinstatement of the shuttle services.

Several community members further called for the service’s continuation by sending emails to MTD, while others voiced their support during MTD public outreach meetings. According to Blackerby, MTD received feedback from a wide range of people, from locals who utilize the service regularly to out-of-town Santa Barbara County residents who use the shuttles after arriving in Santa Barbara by train. “As a downtown resident I need this service restored,” shared one community member during MTD’s April 28th community meeting. “Those of us who live downtown without a car cannot wait for the State Street planning process to be completed for this service to be restored.” In addition to requests that the shuttles resume their services now, community members further suggested how the service may be reworked to accommodate State Street’s closure to vehicular traffic. Some recommended that the Downtown Shuttle be rerouted to cover additional downtown streets, while others suggested only maintaining the Waterfront Shuttle. Still other individuals proposed the course of action that the MTD Board of Directors ultimately decided upon — continuing the shuttles’ suspension rather than terminating the service completely. “Suspension is a no harm, no foul, at least there’s a place to start discussions from,” remarked MTD Board of Directors Chair Dave Davis during the May 18th meeting. He further commented on the many unknowns surrounding the shuttles’ future, including the return of cruise ships to the area, financial support, and the fact that MTD’s current contract with the City is due to end in June 2022. Going forward, the Downtown and Waterfront shuttles will remain suspended from their traditional roles, instead being repurposed to help serve MTD’s Line 3 route covering Cottage Hospital, Samarkand, and La Cumbre. In the meantime, the City of Santa Barbara continues working toward creating its new budget plans. Community News Cottage Health Reaches Milestone With COVID-19 Vaccines: Total of 100,000 Doses Administered

N A MILESTONE FOR LOCAL PUBLIC HEALTH, Cottage Health administered its 100,000th dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, counting both first and second doses, on Saturday, May 15th. The dose was given to 14 yearsold Nancy Felix, who went to the Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital vaccine drive-up clinic. Cottage Health cheered Felix on, presenting her with a gift basket to commemorate the occasion. . Nancy Felix, age 14, (left) received the 100,000th dose of Cottage began its Covid vaccine given by Cottage Health, on May 15, 2021 at community drive-up vaccine the Goleta drive-in clinic. She received a gift basket and was clinic at the Goleta Valley cheered by Cottage staff. Cottage Hospital campus on January 15th, administering 500 doses that day. The clinic now offers more than 2,000 doses a day at the weekly drive-up clinic for individuals age twelve and up. On May 11th, the CDC gave its approval to expand the Pfizer vaccine to young teens age 12 to 15. (Pfizer is the only vaccine currently authorized by the FDA for those under 18 years old.) The following day, May 12th, Cottage was able to offer the vaccine for those 12 to 15, and more than 300 young teens received their first dose that day.

Celebrate local art and talent as the 2021 I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival is held virtually this Memorial Day weekend from Saturday, May 29th to the 31st. Artists will draw their chalk pastel masterpieces on their driveways, with photos of the sponsored street paintings being posted each day on the I Madonnari website and social media. Minari – A Gem Among Films

HE LOOSELY AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL FILM Minari was written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung, an American filmmaker with a South Korean ancestry. It premiered at Sundance in 2020, receiving the Dramatic Grand Jury prize, and also won the National Board of Review Best Screenplay award, as well as being named the Best Foreign Film from the Critic’s Choice Awards. The foreign film designation seems odd, but it was labeled so due to its Korean language and subtitles in English, mostly. Over the course of the season, the film slowly and stealthily gained admirers, as a solidly dramatic tale of a farmer with an almost unattainable dream of transforming rural acreage in Arkansas into a successful farm operation and eventually was recognized as one of the best films of 2020. Sparked by an interview opportunity with Esther Moon, an actor featured in Minari, this is a post awards season look at the down to earth take on the American dream which will long be remembered. As the narrative unfolds, we learn about the immigrant experience and their interactions in their strange and sometimes brutal new surroundings. These themes have been explored before by filmmakers, just look at 1972’s The New Land from Swedish director Jan Troell, Michael Cimino’s under-appreciated masterpiece Heaven’s Gate from 1980, and this year’s critically applauded First

Cow, from female director Kelly Reichardt. This film has yet to find a wide audience, but has a richly layered, authentic script showing arcs of character development. The film is a portrait of America of a generation ago, and portrays the risk taking that has provided a backbone of our societal fabric. But best of all, the cast and locations were breathtakingly specific, and grounded the film in a heartwarming yet credible portrait of struggle. Exterior factors be damned as the film revealed the positive aspects of inter-generational family strength and the rural communities that grow to welcome them. Bonds are tested and re-tested, yet families soldier on and remain fortunately intact. The extraordinary cast intriguingly portrayed the ups and downs of the newly arrived South Koreans, buoyed by religion, yet bursting stereotypes. The film is implicitly a sympathetic tale, fomenting a series of fascinating character studies. In an effort to bring more attention to the film, VOICE was offered a one-on-one interview with actress Esther Moon, who plays a fellow South Korean in the factory scenes, as “Mrs. Oh” in Minari. Working alongside Minari leads Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Okja) and actress Han Ye-ri, Moon’s take on her small role is compelling and memorable. As part of the Minari cast, she was nominated for an Outstanding Performance by the Screen Actors Guild. From South Korea, Moon immigrated to the United States as a youngster and then lived in Korea as a teenager, then moving back to the USA at 16. Her film work includes Women in Film’s, Flip the Script: Joy Joy Nails, a short by Sundance nominated director, Joey Ally. She also appeared in Moonface, a fictional podcast by writer-director James Kim. Her own work extends to producing, writing, and acting, as evidenced by an award-winning short, Fractured, an imagined story based on the backdrop life behind a school shooter. Being new to Hollywood, she has worked over 20 years as a licensed mental Esther Moon and her son health professional. She was even challenged by breast cancer which she successfully overcame. She is a mom, a licensed foster parent, and an advocate for foster care children. She also serves as a volunteer for cancer awareness and research. But Moon’s true love is filmmaking and she came to the interview buoyed by the critical attention from Minari. During the wide-ranging discussion Ms. Moon mentioned, “Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B backed the film. I was so enriched being part of the movie, and I could relate to the two worlds portrayed with one foot in South Korea, and one in the United States. For me, the film was very personal. I understood the Director’s heart and how curious kids can be, about language and culture. I met the director Lee Isaac Chung through a friend who asked

me to help with the audition process and casting of the children in the film. In a week or so, I was asked back to read for the role of Mrs. Oh. During the filmmaking, the director had the main cast live together and my favorite and challenging moment was how to play the scene where religion was mentioned. My character wanted to distance herself from religion, which was interesting.” When asked about her journey from a mental health professional to acting she revealed, “I enrolled in scene study with a couple of studios, and what I like to do or try to achieve is to bring my life experience to the scene, especially my mental health and social work as a clinical supervisor. In my job I have seen humanity on display with every distress, and struggle.” She further added, “I like balancing my two careers, as a mom and a foster mom to three kids, but my true passion is in filmmaking. I really admire the actresses Laura Linney and Laura Dern; they are my guiding stars. I also am frustrated by the constant under-representation and often misrepresentation of Asians in American cinema, and I hope to keep renewing the conversation, to inspire a community and continue to embody strength, talent and individuality as an Asian American actress.” We hope to see more of Esther Moon as she has an apparent joyfulness and talent that she brings front and center. There is also hope on the horizon for a greater and diverse presence by actors of ethnic backgrounds which can only make film-based storytelling richer, more meaningful, and interesting. Minari is much recommended and worth finding as a streaming rental on Amazon or other venues, possibly one of the very best stories of the 2020 pandemic-surrounded film season and deserving of all the adulation the film has received. A Conversation with the Director

O CHILD LEFT ASHORE, a phrase relayed by Santa Barbara Maritime Museum Executive Director Greg Gorga, quickly communicated a focus that insures the 20 year old museum will have a place in the hearts of locals going forward. “Our education programs center around celebrating our rich maritime heritage, giving everyone opportunities to experience first-hand what it is like to be out on the water, and honoring and preserving our oceans,” he said. “We believe everyone, young and old, should get out on the water, go to the Channel Islands, and experience the rich marine life that makes our Channel the ‘Galapagos of the Northern Pacific Ocean.’” The sense of inclusion and welcome that follows those statements permeates the museums programming. Gorga has been working with the Museum since 2007 when he started as their Director of Development with no museum experience and “no knowledge of our rich and diverse local maritime history.” But his background uniquely prepared him to find his feet and begin to lead. “My father served in the Coast Guard during WWII, on a fire boat, and we always vacationed at Greg Gorga the ocean,” he recalled of his initial Executive Director experiences with the ocean. “I’ve lived most of my life close to the water. I am not a sailor, but I love being out on boats on the water, and I have had some great scuba diving experiences, including two trips to Guadalupe Island, both through my connection to the Maritime Museum, to go cage diving with the Great White Sharks.” Since Gorga’s arrival, the Museum has undergone a significant evolution, including the arrival of the First Order Fresnel Lens from Point Conception Lighthouse in 2013. “I believe the First Order Fresnel Lens... is the most important maritime artifact on the Santa Barbara Channel. It is amazing technology that is still utilized today, likely saved thousands of lives over its 143 years of service, and is also a thing of beauty – I compare it to a Fabergé Egg!,” he related. “Physically it certainly dominates the inside of our exhibit space, a perfect counter-balance to our Munger Theater, which is inside the Charles R. Wilson lumber schooner which juts out from the second floor on the opposite side of our Museum.” Also in the Museum is a Chumash Tomol. “Our maritime history goes back to the Chumash, our first recorded mariners, and their unique plank canoes,

or tomols,” Gorga noted. “Then we have the Spanish explorers, Richard Henry Dana Jr.’s visit, Gold Rush shipwrecks, the Lougheed brothers F-1 seaplane, the Honda Disaster, Commercial Diving as it relates to abalone and the oil industry, surfing, and so much more. That’s what I love about both our maritime heritage and the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, because we try to cover as much of that rich, diverse history as we can.” Gorga’s favorite artifact in the museum? “It is hard to beat the First Order Fresnel Lens. A close second are the items from the Honda Disaster, which was the largest loss of ships, seven, during peacetime in U.S. Navy history, and I am especially proud of the 12-minute video we have about that tragedy, where 23 U.S. servicemen lost their lives.” In edition to permanent exhibitions, the Museum features a range of cutting edge displays on technology and its impact on the Channel. “We have new exhibits on the Santa Cruz Acoustic Range Facility (SCARF) which covers the Navy’s use of Santa Cruz Island during the Cold War to conduct all sorts of research, much of it still classified today; Erin Graffy helped us with an exhibit about the Waterfront Center Building that the Maritime Museum occupies; and we created a takehome activity from a program Sondra Weiss developed called Love Letters to the Sea, which is designed to teach children letter writing skills while instilling in them the desire to keep our oceans clean and free of plastics. We are also working with the iconic surfboard shaper Renny Yater, along with the artists Chris Ancell and John Comer, to install an exhibit in late June about California’s rich surf history,” he added.

A PRIMAVERA, an Old Spanish Days tradition, is the event where La Presidenta is introduced to the community, the poster and pin are unveiled, and the new Fiesta theme is celebrated with singing, dancing, and a meal. This year the celebration was held at the Carriage Museum, with La Presidenta Stephanie Petlow sharing the story of the creation of the poster and pin. La Presidenta Petlow designed the poster and pin using family, youth, and history. “My inspiration for the 2021 poster began with a watercolor my mother Sylvianna Johns, a New Mexico fine artist, painted many years ago of a Spanish dancer,” stated Petlow, who has served on the OSD Board for more than two decades. “My granddaughter Nadia Mason then added colored pencil drawings of iconic Santa Barbara landmarks for the poster including the Santa Barbara County Courthouse, the Old Mission Santa Barbara and local artist Bud Bottoms’ Dolphin Family sculpture known as the ‘Bicentennial Friendship Fountain’ at State Street and Cabrillo Boulevard. Additional artwork from ‘El Pueblo Viejo’ was generously provided by local architect Steve Hausz, with permission from the Santa Barbara Conservancy. Graphic design was completed by Mateo Dovgin, a Senior at Santa Barbara High School and son of the 1998 Spirit of Fiesta, Adriana Rey Dovgin. The Fiesta pin, was design was inspired by the 1996 pin created by Mike Harlings and is a silhouette of two dancers. This year’s Fiesta Theme is “Honoring Our Generations”, upholds a 97 year community ritual in Santa Barbara. Fiesta runs August 4th to 8th this year.

and then reached down behind the bar and pulled up a different bottle. She took a sip and he asked a few more questions and then pulled up another bottle. He wanted to know what she felt, what she liked, and why. He wanted to make every wine that he made the best wine that he could make. Up came a fourth bottle. On the fifth bottle, she took a sip, and her face lit up. She loved it! His steely blue eyes twinkled and he smiled. She rattled off all of the points in the wine that she felt made it fantastic. Jim nodded at every one. It was one of his favorites, a Le Bon Climat from his own vineyards that had been aged a dozen years. Americans tend to think that Chardonnay cannot be aged. It can, and Jim was a master at designing wines for that very purpose. I would be remiss if I did not mention that every one of those glasses he poured was terrific. Each one approached the grape in a different way and a different style. Jim was determined to find the perfect match for her, and he did. So long, Jim. We are going to miss you. We will pop one of those aged Chardonnays tonight, and raise a toast to one of the most fun guys that the wine business will ever know. Jim Clendenen was born in Akron, Ohio in 1953. He graduated from UCSB in 1976. He co-founded Au Bon Climat winery in 1982. He is survived by his daughter Isabelle and son Knox. Richard and Amanda Payatt have 40+ years of publishing experience between them. SB County Chess Club Announces 2021 Championship Results

OLLOWING A THRILLING TOURNAMENT that ultimately came down to a tiebreaker match, National Master Hunter Klotz-Burwell was named the winner of the Santa Barbara County Chess Club’s 2021 Championship. Held virtually this past March, the Championship included 34 competing players, including seven United States Chess Federation-rated Chess Masters. “The tournament was a five round contest which normally will produce a clear winner out of 34 entered,” explained tournament director Vince Diglio. “However, this year’s championship was so competitively contested that there were four players tied for 1st Place. This induced a two-game five minute p/game tie break system. When the smoke cleared Masters Hunter Klotz-Burwell and Charles Van Buskirk were to face off for the championship. In an exciting game, Hunter employed the Stafford Gambit which seemed to catch Mr. Van Buskirk off guard, thereby clinching the game and the Championship for Mr. Klotz-Burwell.” Klotz-Burwell first began playing chess as a member of his elementary school’s chess club, going on to play in competitive tournaments in middle school. He was ultimately rated a USCF National Master by the time he finished high school. Recently, Klotz-Burwell graduated from UC Santa Barbara with degrees in Math and Economics. The Santa Barbara County Chess Club has held Chess Championships since 1924 and is one of the nation’s oldest chess clubs. EconomicVOICE Why So Much Inequality? HERE AREN’T MANY ECONOMISTS THAT STILL DEBATE THE ORIGINS of our record income inequality, the worse in the developed world, and even in some of the developing world. A loss of $10 per hour in the typical worker’s compensation is the result of employers’ successful efforts to keep wage growth down over the past 40 years, according to a new paper by EPI distinguished fellow Larry Mishel and EPI director of research Josh Bivens. Mishel and Bivens maintain that while productivity increased 69.6 percent from 1979 to 2018, employees’ compensation increased just 11.6 percent, per the EPI graph. How did this happen? The obvious reasons are the growing strength of corporations and loss of labor union bargaining power that has allowed states to pass anti-labor laws and American corporations to ship many high-paying jobs overseas with little government regulation that would mitigate the job losses of domestic workers. But it goes deeper, back to the origins of the so-called economic sciences and the economic theories that politicians utilize to rationalize their policies. They really derive from political economics, the original pseudo-science that attempted to understand human’s financial behavior, which is not that difficult to understand when we are talking about dollars and sense. The owners of companies and the capital that controlled them wanted few regulations and lower taxes. So from 1980 onward Republican administrations and Big Business began to deregulate whole industries, and the labor laws and practices that guaranteed employees their fair share of the profits under what have been called Laissez Faire or free market economic theories. Less government oversight and lower taxation, for instance, was based on the supposition that it encouraged greater growth, since corporations would create more jobs to produce more goods and services. Industries have become more productive, but the increased profits were kept by the owners and chief executives of those companies rather than passed on to their employees; so the gap has widened between employee’s hourly compensation and productivity, no longer guaranteeing the majority of service workers a livable wage. That justified lower trade barriers in turn, so that consumers with their reduced incomes could afford the cheaper goods now made overseas. Even the Supreme Court got into the act by allowing public employees to avoid paying any fees if they so choose, even though receiving all the benefits of union membership—higher wages, pensions, worker safety, the list goes on and on. The Supreme Court issued a sweeping ruling in 2018 that dramatically undermined unions for teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public employees throughout the United States. The case, Janus v. AFSCME, involved a challenge to the practice of public sector unions charging “agency fees” to employees who decline to join the union but who still benefit from the deals it bargains. And, 28 states have ridden the free market banner and have “right to work” laws banning agency fees. Such laws create a free-rider problem: People don’t have to join unions or pay agency fees to get the unions’ benefits, so the unions lose members and political influence. There is an ongoing dispute over how much of the economic pie should be going to workers vs. the owners of capital, but not the fact that it has happened. Our badly degraded infrastructure and warming planet tell us that public works that would prepare the U.S. for future catastrophes have been badly neglected, as well. The ongoing political and economic debate is how to right the fact that most of the rewards of higher productivity have not increased the public good but diminished it. Mishel and Bivens are helping us to see that labor must have a greater voice in that debate.

SBCC Students Advocate Through Art with Virtual Pop-Up Exhibition

N AN INNOVATIVE DEMONSTRATION OF THE POLITICAL POWER OF THE ARTS, over 40 Santa Barbara City College students have contributed to the creation of a virtual Performing, Visual, and Media Arts Pop-Up Exhibition. Centered around the theme “Justice: Environmental, Economic, Racial,” the exhibition showcases students’ varying forms of artistic expression while offering profound insight into the social and political issues they care about. “Addressing social issues through the art of editing and filmmaking is my way of educating the public and generating awareness,” reads student Madison McGovern’s artist statement. McGovern created a short documentary film titled Death by Cop March, which consists of footage from the 2015 Los Angeles protest by the same name. This is SBCC’s first virtual exhibition to present students from across multiple departments as a part of the college’s Guided Pathways initiative, which aims to promote student success and close equity gaps. Accordingly, the exhibition celebrates art in all of its forms, with participating students having studied in the SBCC Departments of Art, American Ethnic Studies, Photography, Film and Television Production, Journalism, Graphic Design, and Multimedia Arts and Technologies. In scrolling through the virtual exhibition, viewers are first confronted by a series of posters largely focused on environmental issues. By pairing haunting images such as a skull beside bags of trash, lungs filled with burning forests, and fish filled with plastic with messages like “your trash will outlive your children” and “don’t let By Savannah Dryden Mother Nature become a ‘once upon a time,’” each student’s design encourages viewers to take concrete actions to protect our planet. The impact of these pieces is further heightened by the later inclusion of a graphite drawing depicting a girl with many eyes mournfully watching over some grassy hills. “I created this piece as an expression of mourning the nature that I have appreciated throughout my upbringing, which has now become exploited and industrialized,” reads student Savannah Dryden’s artist statement. Several photographs are also featured, including photos of a young woman protesting and a solitary protest sign surrounded by greenery. Following these images are a handful of short films centering on a group of high school activists as they host a Climate Strike rally, as well as the 2015 Death by Cop March. Through these works, along with some additional visual arts pieces directly referencing the climate crisis and the Black Lives Matter movement, exhibition viewers are reminded of the power young people hold to advocate for and bring about change. At this point, the exhibition celebrates another means of creative expression and advocacy — the written word. Beginning with opinion articles by Ryan P. Cruz, the current editor-in-chief of SBCC’s student newspaper The Channels, viewers are invited to read a series of written works, from informative essays about Chicano artists to an artist’s personal statement. only gain a deeper sense of students’ perspectives on justice and equity, but are forced to reflect on their own beliefs. “I created my digital collage, Transitional Justice, while listening to the George Floyd trial. The defense kept informing us we shouldn’t trust our own eyes. This is called Gaslighting,” explains artist Kathryn Lubahn in her personal essay. “I questioned where the acceptance of gaslighting came from within our judicial system. Call for Artists

RE YOU AN ARTIST INTERESTED IN SHARING YOU WORK in a local exhibition? Through Wednesday, June 9th, the Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center is accepting submissions for its next juried show, Human Forms. The exhibit is open to all mediums, and will aim to feature figurative art depicting the human experience and people. Human Forms will be displayed in the Charles Lo Bue Gallery at 865 Linden Ave. in Carpinteria, from June 19th through August 1st. Up to three submissions are permitted per artist, with the entry fees being $20 for one piece and $30 for up to three. Discounts are available for LFCAC members as well as high school students.
