Donald Greig is a baritone with the Orlando Consort. He was a Chorister at Westminster Abbey and a Choral Scholar at Canterbury Cathedral. He received a First in English and Film Studies at the University of Kent at Canterbury followed by post-grad work in Film Theory. He joined Tallis Scholars in 1985 and in 1988 became a founder member of the Orlando Consort. The Orlando Consort was formed in 1988 by the Early Music Network of Great Britain and rapidly achieved a reputation for their skill and expertise in performing the repertoire from the years 1050 to 1550. Their celebrated collaborations have included such diverse pairings as the jazz group Perfect Houseplants and tabla player Kuljit Bhamra. The Consort currently holds a residency at Nottingham University and recently debuted at Carnegie Hall. Selections from the Consort’s impressive discography have been among New York Times critics’ favorite classical CD releases, have twice won Early Music CDs of the Year by Gramophone Magazine and were shortlisted for a BBC Music Magazine Award. At the 1st Thursday opening reception, Brode will be present to talk with participants about his experiences and sign books. The 1st Thursday reception will take place January 7th, at 23 East Canon Perdido, between 5 and 8pm.

Waterfall Trail #1 by Benjamin Brode

The Author: Thomas Myles Steinbeck (born August 2, 1944) is a writer and the eldest son of Nobel Laureate John Steinbeck. Steinbeck, raised by his father and well educated, was drafted into the Vietnam War, inspiring him to become a photographer and journalist. Subsequently, he wrote numerous screenplays and worked in the film industry. Since 2002, he has been an author of original works, starting with his book of short stories, Down to a Soundless Sea, in 2002. His first novel, In the Shadow of the Cypress, was published in 2010. Steinbeck’s latest novel, The Silver Lotus, was published in 2011. Steinbeck lives with his wife Gail in Santa Barbara, California. The Artist: Benjamin Fay Brode spent his early years exploring the sleepy countryside of San Diego County. There, he developed a great love for the natural beauty of California and (by his own account) had his first encounter with the wee folk who Thomas Steinbeck and Benjamin Brode lived in the pepper tree. The son of artists, Brode was encouraged to be creative and engage life with an artistic sensibility. Throughout his career Brode exhibited mastery in many fields from graphic design to fine furniture and cabinet making. In 1998 he began the singular pursuit of painting with oils. He is inspired by both early California impressionism and contemporary landscape painters.
