Santa Barbara Ringshout Performance • 11am to 1:30pm • 649 Pilgrim Terrace Dr. (off Modoc) • Ring Shout is a dance-like form of Christian worship done by African-American slaves, mostly before the Civil War. It involves moving in a counterclockwise circle, singing, clapping, stomping, and beating on the ﬂoor rhythmically with a stick or broom. Panel Discussion: I Have Decided to Stick With Love: The Legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Peace Builders of Our Time • 1 to 4pm • Karpeles Manuscript Museum (21 West Anapamu St) • Panel will discuss the history of non-violence as it relates to Dr. King. Panelists include Vilna Bashi Treitler, UCSB professor; David Krieger, Nuclear Age Peace Fdn.; Edward Crowther, Jungian psychologist; Daniel Martini, UCSB PhD student / SGI-USA; Nicole Nomura, SGI-USA; and Mick Walsh, SGI-USA. Beverley Jackson moved to SB in 1963 from Los Angeles. She wrote a social column for Santa Barbara News-Press from 1968-1992. She also wrote the award winning book Splendid Slippers on Chinese footbinding and ﬁve other books on China. She has a new book coming out on Dolls of Spain. Jackson is avid doll collector and collector of interesting people. She is also now seriously making and exhibiting pine needle baskets and collage.
