Geoff Alexander: Typically, after a twelve hour shooting day, the thing the cast and crew is most interested in is peace, quiet, beautiful accommodations, great food, and an environment where they can decompress and recharge for the next day’s shooting. Santa Barbara offers all of this, and more. Santa Barbara is the perfect combination of film savvy and film blasé’; sure, people probably know who you are, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to be asked for an autograph at dinner. CASA: What does history have to do with filming in SB County? Will I be a part of movie history?

�� CASA: What makes a curated exhibit stronger? Rachel Rossner: A curated exhibition should create cohesiveness. This can be accomplished in many ways, for example, through a narrative or thematic groupings. CASA: What were you looking for as curator? Rachel Rossner: A combination of craft and fantasy!

Rachel Rossner: I was struck by the skill and creativity displayed in the incredible variety of media and techniques used by the artists. CASA: What is the importance of space like the Faulkner in the SB art world? Rachel Rossner: Being new to Santa Barbara (I’ve been here just 7 months) it is hard for me to say what the speciﬁc importance of a space like the Faulkner is to the Santa Barbara art world! But in general, I would say that spaces like the Faulkner play a special role in communities by opening up exhibition space to a broad spectrum of artists and visitors.

Rachel Rossner: I started working in museums as an undergraduate student and have loved the combination of research and hands-on work with objects and planning the physical lay-out of exhibitions. The most exciting part of working at SBMA is in the ﬁnal stages of installation, when the walls get painted, the works are hung and labels put up: see it all come together is so gratifying.

Rachel Rossner is specializing in nineteenth-century Art History with a focus on exchange between Eastern and Western Europe at Chicago. She holds an MA in Art History and an MFA in Painting from the University of Arizona, Tucson. Rachel has been at SBMA since June as a Curatorial Research Fellow, working primarily on an upcoming show with Assistant Director and Chief Curator Eik Kahng entitled Delacroix and the Matter of Finish, scheduled to open in October of 2013. She recently opened the exhibition California Dreaming: PleinAir Painting from San Francisco to San Diego at SBMA (December 15, 2012 – March 24, 2013). In 2011, she was a Rhoades Foundation Curatorial Fellow in the Photography Department at the Art Institute of Chicago, where she worked on the exhibition AvantGarde Art in Everyday Life.

Omar Sy is a French film actor, best known for his duo with Fred Testot in Omar et Fred and for his role in The Intouchables, written and directed by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano. Sy will receive an award for his masterful honesty and humor as Driss, an ex-con who develops an unlikely friendship in The Intouchables.

Wallis was born in 2003 in Houma, Louisiana. She beat out 4,000 contenders for the role of Hushpuppy. She is the youngest actress ever to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Wallis will receive an award for her astonishing performance in Beasts of the Southern Wild.
